Honestly, Sky are so stupid with branding.

Indeed, anyone remember when Sky Sports News became 'Sky Sports.com TV' for a few months until they realised how stupid it was and went back to Sky Sports News.

Relly surprised that they haven't renamed it Sky Football News. I don't recall it ever showing anything but football. I watched a bit of it just after the Rugby World Cup win and there was nothing about it at all

It really is shocking, and some output is recorded...which is a shame. But then there's only so many times you can read out the same football results. Rolling Eyes

Christ, just had a look at the Sky Broadband service. They have changed it AGAIN.

It has been around for less than 6 months probably, and it's gone from Sky News Active Online, to Sky Scape, to Sky Sports Broadband with content from Sky News and Sky Movies.

Why?

Honestly, Sky are so stupid with branding.

I think its because bugger all people are prepared to pay for the content Sky News are deliverying, especially since a) you can get it over sky digital for nowt, and b) you can get basically the same content from bbc news online for free.

I don't know why Sky thought the market could sustain paid content when you can get the very same stuff for free from the bbc.

The only recorded output is between midnight and 6am everyday, the rest is live. And SSN is a valued service for football fans!

SSN is promoted here as a "definitive" source for soccer (ok, ok, football) information; it runs an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening on Fox Sports World. No mention of any other global sports though.

I am sure I have seen it worse, I do remember once remembering a skit the presenters made at 10.50pm, saw it again at 6.50am! It can depend at times, whether they've had football that evening or not. If you are an avid football supporter (Manchester United supporter myself) then the channel is really useful. But I agree that it should be renamed to Sky Football News. But you then have that bit in between May and August when bugger all football is played. Then they really get stuck.

If you want to know about other sport then I would suggest Eurosport News, but the presentation is really poor in comparison to SSN. It's just video reports and a boring voiceover, and they tell you when it is :00, :15, :30 and :45!

Though they copied the Sky Sports.com TV idea from Fox, as they at the time had a channel called Fox Sports.com TV! I wouldn't like it if there was a channel called Sky News.com TV! You can see where Sky / Fox were coming from for the .comTV idea, but it sounded really stupid IMO.

Yes, Eurosport News is pretty dire and is clearly run on a tighter budget than that of the old ITNNC. Sky Sports News is so-called because it is the news service of Sky Sports. And it just so happens that Sky Sports' output relies on football. And as i say, as a football fan, the service is pretty invaluable (and it also has that brilliant theme-tune!).
