They're still there.

Why?

Nobody likes them.

I've had plenty of time to get used to them now, and I can't. I still hate them. The red thing looks tacky and out of place, the font is horrible the live bug is crap the sidebar/window is rubbish, maps look horrible. Everything looks horrible.

The red blob thingy, or the concept of it, could work. I think they need to change it a bit though.

Why not, let's take the paper review as an example, replace the red blob with a sort of semi-transparent newspaper animation with 'Paper Review' written over that, they could still have the blue strap too, it would look nice and wouldn't require a huge amount of effort.

There are large stories, ie the war on terrorism and the middle east that could have their own little animated things. The middle east coverage could have the horrible red blob replaced with a sort of animated map of Isreal, or something like that. The war on terror, oh I don't know, perhaps the American flag and a little picture of bin Laden, like they have on the newswall. It would look so much better.

Here's an example of what I mean, although I'm sure in could be done a lot better...

I just think it looks a whole lot better than the stupid red thing they've got at the moment.

Of course, if the red thing went they'd have to redesign the windows, but I can't be arsed thinking of what they could look like.

The red thing could work if it had a consistently-sized font instead of trying to fill it up with as big a font as possible, which just looks bad. Look at it during sport roundups, it's nowhere near as bad because the font is small and always the same size.

Red and blue really don't go with the top of the hour intros. The logo is fine I think, but their astons should be dark blue, not the odd fairly dark and cheap looking blue they are now. I think I'll work on some designs for it, which lets face it, even a child could do better with than Sky have.

The graphics are OK in principle but they are just too big and nasty.

The red thing would work if made a lot smaller - it could still provide the 'headline' and wouldn't need to be that big. The blue strap is fine, just still a little too big and also can't we have the name of the person on top instead of a description of them first - it still confuses me!

They just need to be made a lot smaller - we're not blind! We are not American and we don't need a channel like Fox News, and if it goes on then it will turn into Fox News! I certainly don't want to see it go that way!

Radical isn't always the way forward, we do like to see a bit of tradition in news. It doesn't all have to be completely different to the 'conventional news' image.

Also, why they are it - I think we'll have some individual looks for Sunrise, Live at Five, News at Ten, etc. They need it, and reveal the soft set why you are at it! They better have one! Smile

I have a feeling that there are still some changes to be made to sky news, including the possible re-introduction of programme identification in february. What we have seen is only the beginning.

On the whole, I like cat thought that the graphics were crap. But I have got used to them, and as far as im concerened, they are still better than the commadore 64 generated graphics on news 24. At least skys astons are animated, even if there straps are crap.

The newsroom is still going through changes, including the ever changing newswall, which today had another change made to it.

The presenting team on sky is still the best in the world, the most down to earth and proffesional. The news reporting is still the best, and sky news active even in its original state is still the best interactive news service.

Lets give sky news the benifit of the doubt for now. Im sure the graphics department read these threads and will take note of our concerns.

We still have the re-branding of sky news active, the unveling of the soft area of the studio, the new sky news sunrise programme and lots lots more.

And who can dis a channel which hosts such greats as kay b, J.T and allan k. As well as the great holy francis wilson.

or this, something I created a month or two back, similar to Phils in replacing the Red thing with a graphical button.

Does this meen titles for Sunrise instead of the SKY NEWS ones in use at present?

But at least News 24's look like they've been designed by a graphics team! So what if N24's don't animate? If we're prioritising here (obviously the content comes first but...) surely the design is more important than the animation because it is seen for longer?

If Sky want to stay with the red and blue then great, but at least make the astons look like they're made for a news channel and not a pre-school kids channel! Making them smaller and swopping the aston 'information on top line followed by name' style would do.

Cheers, Asa

Now this may be a case of me going mad but I'm sure I seen some different up to the hour titles on Sky News at 4pm before Sunday with Adman Boulton. (which is presented by Martin Stanford this week but that's beyond the point)

From what I could see they appeared to be the same design but different parts of the globe were displayed. Looked rather nice, has this always happened or is this a new thing/mistake that has happened this week?

I think there are 2 up-to-the-hour Sky News titles, one which is used virtually all the time, and at the end it zooms into the curve in the middle of the Sky News logo which opens up for the headlines, and another used for Sunday with Adam Bolton and other programmes like these which go straight into the titles for that programme, which doesnt zoom into the Sky News logo.

It might be that the 2nd titles have slightly different parts of the globe viewed on it.

Ah that could well be it! I want to see some daytime and nighttime titles for Sky News - especially for Sunrise.

I think if they are going to do anything it'll be in Feb. That's when quite a lot is happening.

It probably will take them a while to sort themselves out.

I don't know if any of you remember the old Sky News International programme, replacing World News for a time. I saw that and thought the graphics were horrible, but in comparison to these it looks great. News International was ordered off the air I think, because it looked so awful, so why haven't these graphics been removed by the thinks at Sky? Surely they can't actually like them?

I can't understand how they were allowed on air in the first place, they're just so awful.
