Unless Sky get some SERIOUS complaints, or decide they don't like the graphics themselves, we will have to put up with this until the next change. Everyone e-mail news@sky.com and just bombard them with complaints. May as well try newsactive@sky.com as well.
Now, I posted that a few days ago and whilst those graphics are still not good, I'm slowly getting used to them.
The studio is fabulous, no problems there - no matter what angle you look at it, it still looks brilliant.
Rob, do you really like the BBC? I would never have guessed. I've always found News 24 to be too dull for my liking. Nice studio - although not anywhere near as good as Sky's - but the rest is just painfully dull.
And BTW, Sky is still winning when it comes to actual coverage. That bus crash was the worst example I've seen, but since that coverage has been very impressive. The only big critisism I've got of them at the moment is that they can't go live in-vision to Afghanistan.
I have no idea about Skys coverage, as I dont really watch it (I've watched News 24 since it began really, and its the brand thats stuck). But the new look is awful. The temporary look was great. The new studio was alright, although the monitors were a bit more distracting than the old ones (or News 24's), but the graphics and the stupid animations and SFX - yeuk.
Bring back the temporary graphics (and theme etc.), and update the clock and bug. That would be FAR better,

While we are talking about Sky News coverage I was flicking around and by the looks of it skys geoff meade was the first to report the flashes in the sky.

On an unrelated note, I was watching Fox News at around lunchtime and this over the top DJ was speaking live from his radio station on a split screen with (what I assume) was the Fox News breakfast crew.
He was so unbelievable, you just wanted to punch him. Every split second he said 'right' or 'yeah' and tried to interrupt the person speaking with some inane comment like 'yeah, yeah, yeah, i agree with you'. They just couldn't shut him up. I switched off in the end because I just couldn't put up with him speaking. He was banging on about someone that phoned his show saying he wanted the country to turn communist! The DJ just ripped into him and started getting all emotional (in a sick way) over the US flag, which was 'proudly' displayed behind him.
Cheers, Asa
(Currently ill - and being subjected to Fox News and some bizarre version of Blockbusters on the Czech channels!!)
As the majority of people in here know, I've always been an avid supporter of Sky News but after watching it today I'm seriously considering turning off for good.
Over the past week or so, since the relaunch of the graphics, Sky News has simply gone downhill. These stupidly sized graphics, sensationalist reporting, pathetic production values and programmes that are all identical. The style of reporting appears to have shifted more towards L!VE TV, instead of the Sky News of old. Perhaps they're training Bob Friend up as News Bunny.
Wow! I never thought I'd hear you say such things Chesh
It's just the astons ain't it at the end of the day, they're too big!!

People seem to forget that sometimes the news is boring. News isn't suppossed to be entertainment, News 24 is about news, it seems to exist to inform the viewerts it has. Sky news has always seemed to be trying to win ratings first, and if they see some news footage while they are there then that's ok. I realise they are a commercial station blah blah but itreally is pretty dire.

I think that was just a bad day in the history of Sky News. Since that their reporting has been impressive, and very in-depth with all of the studio guests. But get rid of those bloody astons! I turned on Sky this morning, expecting to find a nice blue strap with just a 'striking back' tag on it. But it was still 'BREAKING NEWS'. Arg!! How can it be breaking 7 hours after you first reported it?! And CNN are worse! But they've calmed down now.
On the subject of Ben's comments. Deary me, obviously someone who's never watched Sky News here. Ben, from the viewing experience I've had Sky have been a hell of a lot more in-depth than the BBC. Sky have their analysts working for them, foreign affairs editor sitting at the news desk, and the newswall coverage. A hell of a lot more than what the BBC have in terms of in-depth reporting. Yes, there's Newsnight, Question Time, Today, and the like, and I do watch and listen to all of them, but they aren't on News 24 and aren't constant like Sky.
Sky News undoubtably does try to get viewers more than the BBC, but make no mistake, the BBC are going down the 'watch us! We're great!' road, just like Sky. But do you really think that Sky's main objective is to get viewers? I think building up one of the world's most successful news channels in 12 years is pretty impressive, and it requires a hell of a lot more than viewers to get to that stage.
I'm not convinced if I like Sky (I've had it 8 days now) or not. It's got some good points, and comes over as a confident news broadcaster. Which is good, and better than I expected.
But the graphics just spoil it in my opinion. I hadn't noticed before today, but the way they zoom the breaking news graphic with a whoosh is so tacky. Great on a football match replay, but introducing the president of the USA declaring war is breaking? No, I don't think so.
And why is the text so big? Can we not read? And why has the actual caption in such a large capitalised font, and B I G G A P S B E T W E E N L E T T E R S. Difficult to read. I started watching a presser earlier, and missed the beginning - usually the important bit before the questions. The captions didn't summarise at all what has been said. I've got quite used to that on the BBC and quite like it.
