I've always thought they could run a breakfast programme from say 8-10am to catch the late risers... Sunrise used to run until 10am and on Channel 5 they could use it to partially replace the Wright Stuff if they added a Your Call bit at 9.30am to Sky News?! Smile

I also had no idea Sky News was intrested in Channel 5, although the new simulcast is a bit pointless for half an hour, it should at least be an hour long. More people have woken up at 6:30 than 6:00am. Maybe this will change, just imagine if a breaking news story occurs and Sky News is getting pictures say from FOX NEWS and they're getting it from Al Jazerra like has happened, when Channel 5 join in the screen will be even more littered with DOGs!

Would be great if Sky News were to take 'The Wright Stuff' and put it on their channel. It would fit in really well and give us something more than simply bringing back Your Call.

Thats great news, I don't have any other way to get Sky News right now and I'd really want to get a look.. I just really wish they'd show the whole of Sunrise, though, not just the first half hour. I think it'd be good for Channel Five's ratings and everyone all-round if the BBC had a serious news competetor in the mornings.

You can watch Sky News Online.

I suppose one of them's gonna have to go - I bet Channel 5 would be reluctant to loose their logo. Can't they take a clean feed, like the one in Sky News Active?

Channel 5 often switch off the dog during news programmes, like the 5:30 and 7:30pm evening bulletins, so I guess this is what they will do both currently with ITN News Channel and next year with Sky.

One thing I've always woundered about Channel 5 - why always have the dog on the left? Surely it wouldn't be very difficult to make a right-aligned version, to cater for instances such as this if they really wanted their channel 'branding' visible all the time?

Yeah, saw that, thanks a lot for that, it's fantastic!! But I'm just saying it'll be good to see it full screen with out it looking all blocky.. even their huge graphics can be a little tricky to read on there sometimes.

A couple of things I don't think anyone's mentioned here yet, it'll be on for a full hour on Saturdays and Sky News has also been commisioned to make some documentries on topical issues throughout the year. Probably those so-called 'instant documentries' Channel 5 seem to be so keen on.

i think it must have taken most people by suprise, but its quite plainly a win-win situation for 5 and sky. i still have reservations about murdoch's foothold into terrestrial tv, but 6am on ch5 is hardly prime time.

im not sure how this fits in with license conditions - i was under the impression each channel had to use 1 nominated news provider? and so im guessing this wont be classified as news, and 5 will have to keep the 5.30pm and 7.30pm shows going - for the purposes of hours of news

i have a feeling its initially 1/2 an hour - though could be extended if its succesfull - although i think an 8 -> 10 show would have alot more potential.

onething i do have reservations about is the breaking news deal, i think its a shame to waste the 5 news team - who present news in an alternative style to the others. i would have expected this kind of deal from channel 4 - as they only have 1 bulletin per day - so it must be a nightmare scrambling a presenter in.

btw - although sky are in the consortium to provide the ch4 breakfast show, i didnt read any mention of sky providing news - i assumed the new show would negotiate with itn.

Yeah, they should switch it to the right more, expecially at night when there is sport scoreboards on over the top of it.

Also, if they do leave the '5' DOG switched on when showing SKYnews with their DOG, they shouldn't clash as the '5' is placed low so it's still ok when showing 14:9 programmes on analogue and for WS TV's that zoom into 14:9 when watching 4:3 programmes on digital. Sky's isn't though, so if I put my TV into 14:9 zoom, I still see the '5' fully with a tiny gap above it still, whereas if I do the same on SKYnews, the DOG isn't visible at all.
