I prefer BBC News 24, it rocks man! They do the best coverage! Ever since it launched it's done the headlines every 15 minutes - and then Sky copied their idea to show the headlines every 15 minutes as well!

One thing that annoys me about Sky News is you get a report start, and it shows a village or a town, and it comes up with an annoying little tag 'Surrey' - that ****es me off!

I used to enjoy News 24 in the flags era, nice bright studio, great idents and originally a great aston, before they turned it orange, now of course I watch BBC World more often, and it's hard to watch News 24 after watching an hour of BBC World, so I just turn to Sky News!

What were the astons initially like on News 24? I've never seen the first ones.

It's hard to describe, it was bascially made up of flags as I remember it, it had a faded effect.

If anyone can remember, i'm sure they can describe it to you better!

Pardon me Ryan to call you stupid but...
Sky News actually had 15 min updates on LAUNCH NIGHT, you know the one in 1989... a tad before News24 arrived in 97.

Sky News cost 30 million pounds in 2000, compare this to News24 which cost 60 million (these are official BBC and BSkyB and government figures so don't try and tell me they are wrong!).
BBC News24 costs more than Sky News so Sky News does not have a 'far higher budget', not sure where you got that idea.
And as I have said so many times before... BBC News has been 'in the news game' longer than Sky..
It has however not been in the 24 HOUR NEWS GAME much longer than Sky. When will people realise these are two totally different industries?!
We have had this arguement time and time again and I am NOT prepared to waste the something like 12 pages it took to work out which one we prefered last time, although we never reached a conclusion.
There will always be people who like Sky always people who like News24, the viewing figures suggest more like Sky, and less like News24. This could change, IMO opinion it wont, at least not for the time being.
One thing I have noticed in here is people saying 'I like the Sky astons better' blah blah blah.. I think the point of this thread is to establish which provides the better coverage of events...

Oh.. and Ryan, if you are driven up the wall by a caption telling you where the place is.... you need some help.

I knew you would eventually contribute to this thread cheshirec!

I think we can talk about astons since this is a forum dedicated to idents and presentation!

Yes, of course talk about astons, however do not judge the channel on its astons.

'it has great idents and better captions ' does not mean it is a better channel.

I am in the middle of exams so my visits to this forum are short, at least for the next couple of weeks.

And remember, Sky News is of course not finished yet!
They are moving into a new studio soon, and the graphics will be altered (again).
So there will be plenty to talk about.
Incidentally I notice that Sky are returning to normal schedules on Monday, World News returns and out go the long overnight bulletins.
Business Report and Money also return, which strikes me as a little odd considering they have axed the business unit.
