I've just checked out the Sky News Australia site, which has been carrying the old logo for some time.

They've now got an animated intro in Flash, with music that sounds radically different to our UK music.

In fact, dare I say it, the buttons and general look to this site is a LOT better than the Uk site- have a look:shock:

I went and looked at the 'About Us' section, and it says that SkyNews Australia is a joint venture of Seven Network and Nine Network. How did they manage to get two competing networks to work together like that (if they are competing with each other that is)?

Well, it's only in the UK where there is high competition between broadcasters.

Whataday, I don't mean to be insulting but that's the most stupid thing I've ever heard anyone say on this forum.

What on Earth do you mean it's only in the UK where there's high competition?!

Have you honestly never heard about the TV industry in the United States? France? Australia? Germany?

In the USA the competition is even more fierce than it is over here, to the point at which networks publically slag each other off on air.

The website looks quite good, prefer the main Sky News one, though. The music is certainly different too. There's an excellent backstage bit on the website too, makes interesting reading.

And nice to see Australia is now an entire year ahead of us...

I thought American broadcasters all loved each other?

Could someone enlighten me - I can't find any info on their website. Is Sky News Australia actually its own separate channel, or is it carried by different networks at different times? It also seems to me that the majority of programmes are from different sources (Sky News UK, CBS and ABC), with the odd Oz news programme or feature. Am I wrong ?

How did they get away with using completly the wrong typeface on the flash intro:?

Does anyone know where to get the UK Sky News Music used while the 2001 election was on?

I take it that was sarcasm, DAS.

Sky News Australia is a news channel in its own right. It has 30 minute 'Australian Edition' bulletins every hour, and the following 30 minutes are filled by feature programmes. Some of these programmes are CBS and ABC - just as Sky News over here used to do - and some are live feeds of Sky News in London. One reason why we may have little branding on our Sky News is the Australian opt-in. Australia opts in during our morning, which is their evening. Previously, Australians turning on Sky News Oz at 6pm would've been watching Sky News Sunrise, hardly logical.

You take it right - thanks for the info.

I find it interesting that Sky News doesn't really have that international feel to it. Sounds odd I know, but it must seem quite weird for Australians opting in to our (rather British!) breakfast programme during the evening. I was until recently under the impression that the only international programme was Sky World News. Evidently not.
