As for "BBC News style railing", I'm not sure where the hell that's coming from. I've never seen a BBC News style railing that's blue, wood and metal used in that fashion. Or are railings now the exclusive property of the BBC? Fox have railings like that, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc, etc. Come off it.

I wasn't suggesting that Sky had "copied" the railing or that such a railing was copyright, I was just saying that the way there is a chrome-effect curved railing wall behind the desk reminded me of the BBC national news studio (especially the old one). If the hole in the padding on the right of the desk is filled by a large screen then this would be more the case.

I wasn't trying to slate Sky News- hell, if you want me to do that I can- it's way too dark, way too blue (which makes me think the new graphics will be way too red and way too bright), the red "leatherette" padding looks more suited to a cheap nightclub, the music would work much better on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and the presenters think they are far too important for their own good.

But I didn't want to say all that Wink

It's probably amounting to a difference of about 50%. But statistics are wonderful.

Perfectly entitled to your opinion, tsunami, no matter how much I disagree with it. Think News 24 remains a half-hearted approach to 24 hour news; presenters too smug and agenda too flimsy; studio too bright and lighting too poor... but I didn't want to say all that.

after all this discussion, have we learned when the new graphics are coming into use?

Sorry for sounding dumb, but if the studio is bright, surely that's because the lighting is good!

The set is brighter due to better lighting in the studio than the newsroom. Am i right Confused:

No. If lighting is too bright, or if some areas are bright and other areas are dark, then this is incorrect and so could be described as 'poor lighting'.

Personally I think the lighting now on News 24 is very good.

The lighting in some areas of the studio is excellent, but in others is just dire.

Behind the projection screens the lighting appears to fade up and down constantly; the 30 min update looks like the camera looks like it's had grease smeared on it.

Has anybody noticed on the Sky News Active newsroom shot, there is now a blue strip obscuring the bottom part of the picture, under the ticker?

Indeed, and the camera is further off to the left than it was before.

Oddly enough... it now seems to have gone. It doesn't look like it was there to obscure anything, so maybe it was just user error that it was left like it for some reason.

I see they've been zooming in on the back of the studio from the newsroom at the start of some of today's bulletins. You can see the red walls on the newsroom side of the glass, which look like they have landscape plasmas (currently either turned off or not yet installed) embedded in them (you can also see the very edge of the holes on the shots they're currently using for sport). The red wall on the left-hand side of the studio has exactly the same kind of portrait plasma-shaped 'hole' as the one we've already seen on the right.

Interestingly, the plasma mounted in the wall on the newsroom side can't actually be seen from the studio in the shots they're using at the moment. Not sure whether they'll just be used in newsroom shots or if they plan on moving the walls on Monday so they're in the same position as the old projected globes.

From a possible Sky News insider on the http://www.skynewstribute.co.uk forums:

"New look gfx are coming along later in the month for anyone who might be interested, I think most of the new look is fairly good but there is one thing that really bugs me. However, with any luck it will be changed before we go live with it...time will tell...."
