Looks like all the late night output is pre-recorded: The gallery is empty and you can see some monitors with a picture of the green screen and an empty chair.

Although the sports bulletin looks like it comes from TV, the output with the presenter looks very clean and crisp, so it looks like the server based playout system is being tested over night.

They probably have TV Forum on a PC that we can't see and are doing things to see how much they can fool Martin and get him excited Very Happy

Oh, they know all about us sad lot and have been known to do the odd wind-up, especially when you could listen into the gallery at 11.30pm. "Windscreen rehersals", anyone? That certainly got some people reaching for the Kleenex.

Well here are some more details, according to a chap over on Sky News Appreciation thingy...

Revamp Details.

Studio: They've put a couple of mini walls at either end of the set, painted red and they've plan to inset Sky News logos into them. Those walls are echoed on the newsroom side of the glass. This is the same idea as the little walls that have previously stood on the newsroom side of the glass, where moving images of the globe were projected onto them. The projections have gone. It'll be the Sky News logo or perhaps plasma screens inserted in the walls.

They've also tarted up the beam above the presenters' heads. Looks like some kind of red pading. The desk hasn't been changed.

Newsroom: The makeover will essentially turn the newsroom into a proper studio set. Special walls are being built, with Sky News logos inset on parts of them. These walls give the newsroom a much more self-contained look and mask some of the more untidy areas.

A small presentation desk has been constructed near the area where Martin Stanford presents from. It's a purpose built mini-set and will look much better than simply having the presenter perched on the end of a desk.

The primary colours in the newsroom will be light blue, royal blue and red. New computer terminals are being installed as part of the makeover.

I am told The main thing viewers will notice is more emphasis on using newsroom shots and being a bit more imaginative about those shots. It should all look really slick.

Graphics and ident news coming Shortly.

Should all be up and running by Jan 1st.

Hmm, sounds very interesting.

If they do really revamp the newsroom, it will be the first significant change to it since the channel launched in 1989. It has always been broadly of a similar layout and design.

Lots of red in the studio (red padding?!) sounds like they are turning it into some sort of love nest at a swingers party. Hopefully they will be making better use of the space they have available to them, though.

The top of the desk (plastic marble effect cheapo crap) really needs to go, but the rest of it looks good enough. Also will be interesting to see how effectively they pull of the red and blue colour scheme; they've always had it as their signature look, but never really pulled it off very successfully.

Going from what jay wrote, the set should be a similar design to the Wesminster studio?

The set should look good then depending on whether you like the Westminster studio or not. It will be interesting to see how the cameras are positioned so that whatever is on the screen behind on the red walls can be seen without being too blurred - that's provided they have the screens.

Looking forward to seeing the new/tweaked graphics and ident.

Wow, Ministry of Design... that is really good!

If the set looks anything like that, it will be a great improvment on those washed out globes that didn't even line up with the panel they were projected on.

You make it sound like it's a mock. I think its a view of the office part, and through the glass the studio of millbank, as seen from the newswall.

That is a view of the Osterley set from behind the desk, within the newsroom. Ministry has recoloured it and added the side walls which have been described...

I wonder if JonnieLarkin will be updating his site with graphics and ident details tonight. That will only give us less than a day to mock up some guesses.

Also does anyone know when they will switch from CSO to the new look on New Year's Day! Midnight or 6:00am.

It would be nice to have the new look kick in along with the chimes of Big Ben!

As I said before, don't expect anything too radical, ident-wise. It's still globes!

They had globes in 1997 - 1998 - 2001 - Present

But these globes were used in different ways, so Globes can be anything.
