It is a pretty good CSO they're using - the only real givaway is that the screens of the newswall and the people in the background aren't moving! Until I noticed that, I thought that they were back in the actual studio, and was sat there thinking, "Well, they haven't changed anything!" Same with the CSO shot of the red newswall that they pipe in for breaking news, it's just a frozen picture.
On another subject, having acquired a widescreen telly over christmas, I can see why people want more accomodating graphics, and the channel to switch to widescreen broadcast, however I'm still ready to punch the lights out of anyone who starts going on along the lines of, "ooh, they've added a bit of red there - is it in preparation for widescreen?!?!" You have been warned.
The close up shots at Milbank over the weekend looked very scary on my new tv - certainly don't agree with those who reckon they could use Milbank nearly all of the time.
It looks great when they use other angles, and actually get some of the studio itself in, but the newsroom behind it is just too small to look impressive.
Think Sunrise could/should be done from there, on the proviso that presenters are not seated behind a big desk.
My guess is that they wanted yesterday at Millbank to look as "normal" as possible - which is why there was no creativity in camera angles. Most people won't have noticed the difference...

yes, the bottom row of screens on the newswall in millbank were just a blank red colour to make it look like the stage at osterley - very clever!
Has anybody seen any other shots other than presenter and wide?
I agree, the CSO effect is quite good, although if you look at the wide shot, it looks like it was taken with the glass window removed - you can't see the joins or reflections.
So the graphics are in for a tweak/revamp/whatever.
Will this affect the graphics on News Active or am I being totally way out of line for even thinking that...?
It would be nice - but wouldn't bother me either way - if they could line up Active's graphics with the video. The clock up the top left is WAY too long IMO.
I would of thought they would try to distance themself with the idea of '8 mini-screens' and try to advertise them as feeds or some other name they come up with. To those who dont like the idea of 1/4 screens...
In case no-one has noticed this new video file I aded to my thread in the mock forum, I would post it here. A finished ident, with special globe at the end for News at Ten...
Well here are some more details, according to a chap over on Sky News Appreciation thingy...
Revamp Details.
Studio: They've put a couple of mini walls at either end of the set, painted red and they've plan to inset Sky News logos into them. Those walls are echoed on the newsroom side of the glass. This is the same idea as the little walls that have previously stood on the newsroom side of the glass, where moving images of the globe were projected onto them. The projections have gone. It'll be the Sky News logo or perhaps plasma screens inserted in the walls.
They've also tarted up the beam above the presenters' heads. Looks like some kind of red pading. The desk hasn't been changed.
Newsroom: The makeover will essentially turn the newsroom into a proper studio set. Special walls are being built, with Sky News logos inset on parts of them. These walls give the newsroom a much more self-contained look and mask some of the more untidy areas.
A small presentation desk has been constructed near the area where Martin Stanford presents from. It's a purpose built mini-set and will look much better than simply having the presenter perched on the end of a desk.
The primary colours in the newsroom will be light blue, royal blue and red. New computer terminals are being installed as part of the makeover.
I am told The main thing viewers will notice is more emphasis on using newsroom shots and being a bit more imaginative about those shots. It should all look really slick.
