Yeah, the booth studio is pretty nasty. At least they got rid of the Sky Sports News booth though, who's nobrainer idea was that to move them there in the first place...?
CA
Well, perhaps they are doing other things in there, so it can't be used all the time...
Also, don't forget that their main studio is just that... a studio. It's a heck of a lot cheaper to get up a small broom cupboard camera than fire up an entire studio.
They are going to be using the Westminster studio much more, apparently, not just for Westminster stuff but for regular news coverage. So quit yer moaning!

A shame that Sky are still using their 'booth' studio with the messy skyline background for some 2-ways. I'd have thought they would use the newsroom studio all the time now.

I was doing a vision-mixing shift there yesterday evening, and yes, the vision-mixer developed a fault during the day when an internal fan failed and it overheated. They had to use the 'standby' cut switcher for a while while things were sorted out.
I found out in the evening that i couldn't change the newswall at all, as an after-effect of the troubles, so we just didn't bother with it. Presumably the engineer would re-set the interface unit during the night, which was believed to be causing the problem.

God forbid one of the vision mixers sorted out the engineering troubles and re-start the desk. Well this is Sky News after all.

You can't help but think it sends out the most stupid message, though. There's a disturbing irony that the exodus of local residents is countered by the influx of local, national and international news reporters looking for the best pictures.
Interesting, however, that Sky are using CBS correspondents A LOT more than they ever have before - moving away from Fox, it seems, and instead choosing to use local and national CBS correspondents for clean two way interviews. I think if Sky have to rely on a US news network (and it's understandable why, considering it's such a huge place) then I'd much rather it were CBS than Fox.
Just a note about Sky tonight - the EPG says their 11.30 Election Special for the Brent East by-election is coming from the Westminster studio. It continues until 2am. I can't recall them ever bothering to do much for by-elections before now, they usually just incorporate the results into the overnight news programming. Then again, this is an interesting one, but certainly good to see them bothering.

I've been away for 2 weeks and today I have been at university, I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the new Westminster newsroom/studio...
I think I caught a little glimpse of it yesterday on Sky News Today with what looks like a mini newswall, but it was only one small interviewee shot...
EDIT: Dont worry I found some... It is a beauty!!!! Much better, and can serve as a soft set!!!
I wonder how it will be adpated for other programmes. Guess I'll see tonight when I flick over to see the new look littlejohn, providing it uses the set. After watching TV in america for two weeks, even BBC Three and Four are a welcome relief content and presentation wise. Only one Station I saw could pass for a UK Station design wise, and thats USA.

Lol, his shirt has got black fuzz on it. Why is it so bad? I seem to remember Sky News Weather used to be like this, not so long back...
