Don't know if we should read anything into it, but I saw an advert on Sky One Mix today which, rather than being in 14:9 letterbox, was in 4:3 squashyvision.
Oh, not the goddamn "is Sky News about to go widescreen?" speculation again! I'm beginning to feel some serious aggressive tendancies towards people who keep wetting their knickers because every time Sky News makes a minor tweak they think that it heralds widescreen.

Sky News does have an odd feel about it tonight... there certainly does seem to be some subtle anomalies with the graphics, and the opacity of some of the captions.
I just turned over to Sky News and to be honest I cant see anything weird about it. Well nothing weirder than it usually is. I have a mental list of the on-screen graphics changes to Sky News and the last one is that logo up the top corner.
I only noticed it a few weeks ago but it's been pushed more to the side of the screen.
I'm not totally certain on any of the above, it could just be me.
Yes, I don't know exactly what it was, but I noticed a change over the weekend on the slugs and straps, it just looks slightly different somehow.
Perhaps they have just replaced the equipment that generates the slugs and straps, and haben't been able to replicate the exact appearance. Might be something to do with the major technical faliures Sky News has suffered during the last month or so (think it happened 3 times, where their was quite a drop in picture quality, no slugs or captions, and the individual feeds on the newswall were all over the place).
Also, it might have something to do with the fact that their is no ticker on Sky News 1-5, and I don't think it was on during Sky News Today either.

Sorry, this time I'm the one not jumping on the Widescreen bandwagon...
Erm, yeah, should stop doing that... Sky News will change at some point, maybe next week, maybe around it's 15th birthday, getting bored too now.

Both SKYone and SKYone mix broadcast certain shows in Widescreen...
It is not permanantly 16:9, but switches between 4:3 and 16:9, depending on what programme is on...
I was talking about an advert, and Sky show all thier ads and pres in 4:3, I think partly because of Sky News not being in W/S. AFAIK Sky ARC the ads prior to playout as opposed to as they're being broadcast (which I think a few channels do). What I saw was probably a mistake (it looked like the ads on channels like Friendly TV, who can't afford an aspect ratio convertor and therefore play 16:9 adverts in full-frame squashed-up 4:3). The situation is weird, though, means you get a channel like The Amp showing music videos originally 4:3 cropped to 16:9 followed by an ad break made in 16:9 shown in 4:3.

Your prayers re: the business report music have been answered. It's back to the old fanfare lark.
And the 4pm bulletin started with different music. Same sort of theme and everything, but ended with a very flat drum note for whatever reason.
Yeah, noticed that - no "da da da" at the end. Also, I think that fanfare music would make a nice top of the hour if they ever went back to having a menu. All building up, and everything.
Anyway, while I'm here - the ticker's been off and on all day (mostly off when I've been watching). It's been on every day between 9am and 7pm since Hutton, hasn't it?

The ticker is here to stay. It's on from 10am-7pm weekdays, and would also appear at other times during the week and at weekends if their is a major story or breaking news coverage. Really it should be used at Sunrise and during Littlejohn as well, as that would be a proper purpose for it.
Just noticed that one of the other beds has now been modified. The one used to update the headlines at *.15 *.30 and *.45 now doesn't have the signiature "der der der der dur durr durrrr" notes anymore.
