I’ve come to the conclusion that the current Idents or Sky News are the worst ever. They just look simply awful and are not a patch on the previous ones. The countries appear to have no texture, the clouds don’t move and in places, the ident Jumps as If it were shoddily put together.
Love or hate the Sky News graphics, the idents are usually really good. Usually being the word. Question is, will we see them change before Sky News moves to their new hanger home?
I like the ident itself, but the post headline sting is terrible.
The whole look of the channel is crud at the moment. I have desperately tried to get used to the 'big and basic' crap that's been going on since the last election, but at the end of the day it just looks rubbish and cheap. The whole feel of the channel changes with the graphics, and at the moment they are a pile of cack.
I imagine you will have to wait until January until you see any new versions... but I reckon they will go mad when they move, and hopefully come up with something genuinely impressive.
I also hope they invest in some decent map software; Viz Map being a good example.
You look at the sort of thing CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS come up with and compare it to the the flat, untextured rubbish that the British networks produce and it's shameful really.
Big and basic doesn't have to be crap. The current CNN look could be classed as Big and Basic and yet works well.
I do like the studio and newsroom at Sky at the moment. Reminds me of the days of Sky News at 10 with the dark and moody lighting. But now the constant tight shots and lack of freedom with camera angles means you never actually get the full effect.
I would like to see something like CNBC on the next evolution on Sky News with different variations in the music to reflect the time of the day. Some decent graphics that don't have to be over the top.

I have to disagree on this - the untextured maps a la Sky, ITV, BBC look much clearer, less tacky and generally, well, better, than the maps used on CBS News (for example).
However, for truly awful maps you ought to experience Anglia Tonight (West) <shudder>

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I find it very, very, very hard to understand how you can describe the plain, totally lacking in physical features, maps of the UK networks as ''generally, well, better'' than a flyover 3D surface representation.
If a plane crashed in a mountain range, Sky would show you a flat map of the area. ABC would be able to zoom in and illustrate just how high the mountain was in relation to other land in the area... I know which I'd prefer.
I think that the current Sky News look is ****, the old one suited the channel much better. I do know that Sky News will have a new look before they move into there new studios.

Well I guess if the rumours of a complete Sky rebrand in September are true, then a new logo will be forced on them.
It wasn't such a long time ago that Sky rebranded almost every September.
When they were doing the Conveyor Belt "Vote Generation Game" item earlier this afternoon, I think I recall Martin saying something about new graphics.

Perhaps a re-launch will help Sky in the ratings - N24 have beaten them three weeks in a row now in audience terms.
