"The remarks have British critics worried that under James Murdoch, Sky News, which is seen here as a more balanced product than Fox News in the United States, will start to shift to reflect his father's apparent political leanings.
If James Murdoch is made head of the company, ''what would worry me is that the concept of impartiality in news is abandoned in Britain," said Granville Williams of the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom."
From the New York Times.
Can't see it happening, to be honest. Sky News isn't institutionally right wing like Fox.
Wonderful is not the most obvious adjective to associate with Malone, but I'll let it slip.
It was a hidden joke. For the first 20 minutes, my post read "Carole Malone is a spiteful, nasty hypocrite". I might change it back later, depending on public opinion.
And just to continue this theme of consecutive posts...
More variations of the new music have emerged over the past few days. Sure I've heard a new bed just played on Sky News Today. Sounds very strained and slower, but keeps the signature tune in it.
Also a VERY odd Markets Report theme. Sounds awful, and nothing like the others. A cross between the new theme and the election theme... just bad.
But the point is about the editorial emphasis and pressure from upstairs. Just look at the Sun, and its coverage of the Iraq war. It'll never be as bad as Fox News as that sort of brashness isn't accepted in news over here, but gradually over time, the Murdochs could have an influence.
Speaking of Fox News, they alledgedly tried to sue the makers of The Simpsons because of the spoof ticker episode. Which would have essentially meant that the company would be suing itself.
Love the excuse of "you're not allowed to spoof news tickers because people might think it's real news". Even when it's on a flippin' cartoon like The Simpsons??!

Erm... what?
The Sun will never be as bad as Fox News?
Have I entered another universe where nothing makes sense?
Sorry... I do hate to be the one who makes you sound like a complete idiot, CPFC, but have you read the Sun lately? I know it was pretty liberal in the 1960s, before Murdoch got his hands on it, but it's never really struck me as being "soft" on the left wing.
As bad as Fox is, the idea that it could ever be more overtly biased than the Sun is just incomprehensible..

Sorry, I meant that
Sky
will never be as bad as Fox News, not the Sun. The point I was making (if you read the whole thing) was that the Murdochs always have their influence (witness The Sun and Fox News)
I've heard that James Murdoch is a bit of a lefty in his own right. I seem to remember seeing him not to long ago trashing his up bringing in America and what that part of the world tends to 'get up to'.
I have to say, the new sports headline bed sounds a bit fox news'ish. With synth drums etc. The rest of the music really is growing on me now, they just need to start playing a decent end of hour cut, rather than just fading into the break.
Sky News gets a new shorter text number from Monday. Could this also be to coincide with new graphics?
Oh yes, what an *obvious* link. Having a shorter number will force them to redesign everything.
Well, in fairness, they could clip a few monitors off the left hand side of the video wall and install the water cooler Alan King has been moaning about for a while.

Shut-up you twit. Don't you have a cineama to manage? We know new graphics are on the way, and in my opinion it would make sense that if I new number was to be given for text etc, I would coincide this with the new graphics.
Well in all honesty I would've done it with the music too but that hasn't happened.
