In an attempt to redress the balance for Cheshirec on this forum, I have opened up this topic to enable everyone to heap praise upon the ground breaking phenomena that is Sky News.

Ah but you see, I don't need to see people post in here to prove that Sky is better, the audience figures clearly show that.
What did you edit BTW? Nothing rude I hope.
And to counter the BBC bias on this forum you would have to create at least 400 Sky News threads.

I edited a spelling mistake because like the BBC, I strive for perfection.

Yes, but like the BBC, you fail.

Has anybody got any idea when this supposed new look will be on sky news, and will it be before the election or after, and what will it entail?

Right, I was told by Kev. who has the forum name Newsonline2001, I  think! that...
It would have a totally different look, the newsroom will be about 1/2  the size of the current CNN/us one, and the broadcasting area will be much bigger though.
It will be a much faster service, and will have things such as an animated sidebar, i.e. the things you see on CNBC US, you know, where the picture is by the side of the presenters head, they have it animated, like on Sky Sports Centre.
It will be a total revamp, faster reporting style, shows will be more uniquely named, such as morning news (not a replacement for Sunrise) and they are going to have an evening programme something along the lines of NBC Nightly News.
Apparently Bob Friend is leaving soon, I knew he was going, but not that soon, and they are doing talent interviews, that is why I thought Russell from Spotlight may be taking his place, if he is leaving, because apparently it is someone from BBC Regional stations.
It will be after the election btw.
They are getting a composer to do the music for the station, like NBC did.
Sky Business, a new business channel is the launch as well.
Sky News is to be broken off from BSkyB but remain a part of News Corp. as, and I would agre with this 100%, BSkyB have limited Sky News, for example, they would not let them build news bureau for a time.
I can't think of much else now, hmmm....
Oh yes, the reporting style is to change, it will be more of a world news from a UK style, type thing, and it will be much faster than current broadcasts, even better with breaking news etc.
Honestly cannot remember anymore, but this is what I have been told anyway, whether everything mentioned will all happen remains to be seen I guess.

Have a look at my fake mock up designs and see what you think BTW

I want to complete the set eventually!

Don't make me laugh, take a look at the string of Awards the BBC recently won at the Royal Society Television Awards 2000 and then tell me again, oh and by the way looking for Sky, well they got a couple for Sport but NOTHING ELSE.

Yes, all voted for by a judge, and if you know anything about the RTS, you will know they are firmly a BBC biased organisation.
And to come to the point that News24 won the award for the Belgrade revolution, they may have happened to be on air at the time, but realisticly, the only channel that deserves to win an award for that is CNN, who's coverage was put on national tv in the region and who's pictures were used by the BBC throughout the afternoon.
And when it came down to the viewers actually voting for something (novel idea I know, letting the viewers having a say) guess who won... oh yes, it was Sky.
Sky News, voted favourite news channel of the year, by people who actually watch the channel, and anyway, as you well know, even BBC staff hate News24.

Yeh, but you just can't accept the fact that the people in the know and in the industry rate BBC News much higher than that of Sky. You dismiss this with the argument that 'they are a firmly BBC biased organisation', because you have no other reasoned argument as to why the BBC would take all these awards, leaving Sky's trophy cabinet very bare. BBC News has the respect of the industry and the general public and your arguments are flawed especially faced with the evidence in black and white.

Cheshirec- must try better.

I like the mock screen shots, they are very classy, unlike skys current look. It is a shame we are going to have to wait till after the election for all of this to happen though. I keep tunning in hoping to see a new look, but to no avail. As the election also looks likly that it will be put of again, we could be in for some wait. I really do hope that what you said about Bob Friend is not true. He is one of the funniest witiest presenters i have ever seen, a credit to sky news.

As you well know BBC News24 is not at all respected by people, hence the crappy viewing figures, and the fact that people at the BBC do not like it, look at Micheal Buerk, he hates, it.
Sky has much more respect than BBC News24 in the industry, I should know, I work in it!
hence the fact Sky is on a massive screen in both the news centre and ITN newsroom.
Even Christanne Amanpour, when covering the air strikes in Iraq, who wa sin London at the time, said that Sky was leading the coverage this side of the atlantic.
Lou Waters asked her, how are the British media covering this, are they giving it as much as us over here?
And Christianne replied, that there was only one station Sky that was covering the event, the other 2 were not devoting much, if any time to it, to which Lou Waters smiled as if he was expecting it.

I am afraid that Bob was planning his retirement anyway, he is now 63 and apparently moved from NAT because he fell out with the editor.
It is a real shame, that will mean that only about 3 presenters will have remained since launch.
Apparently though, Sky's election graphics are very good, and they are doing a special relaunch for the election.
Bob is in my opinion the best news reader in the Uk.
