I think not!! ha ha  Smile
Every Breaking News item yesterday, Sky were late to, even although they use ENPS the same as the Beeb, therefore see the wires at the same time! Even CNN beat them to the stories!

I was waiting for someone else to sing the praises of BBC World / N24 for beating both Sky, CNN & ITN to all the breaking stories, but no-one has submitted an entry.

As Mr SkyNews is so quick off the mark on stuff & N24 never sing their own praises (coz they don't need too!) I thought I'd mention the fact that they were first to...
Interest Rate Cut
Russia Plane crash
Plane Hijack
Blair confirmed going to Pakistan

N24 were 1 minute before Sky on Interest Rates
N24 & World were 5 minutes before sky on Russian Plane
N24 & World were 1 minute before sky on Blair

I can't remember the other two breaking stories yesterday, but the Beeb were before all other broadcasters on them all!!

'Sky News First'???!!! Ha ha, don't make me laugh!
Maybe Trading Standards needs to look more closely at them Very Happy

Perhaps their fan-dabby-dozzy Astons take too long to type up now? Oh dear, what a shame! Smile

Yey, something that's quite interesting there! I always stick with the BBC for my news coverage, no matter what!

Not quite true though, is it?

What about the court case involving Stone? The BBC had no idea about sentences for Stone until a Sky reporter came out an annouced it. Even then they still didn't report it. Sky had two reporters on air, one had been in the court, the other reporting live outside. News 24 had one who didn't seem to know what was happening. So they were first there.
Russian plane hijack, N24 weren't first to report that it had possibly been hit by a missle, were they? Also weren't first to report that these suggestions had been denyed.
Jobs cuts at first choice, again Sky was first
Majority verdict in Stone trial, again Sky was first

OK?

It was interesting to see that when every other major news network .. CNN, N24, World etc were taking the live press conference between Blair and President Musharraf (which has to be said was significant) Sky were showing parts of Blair's conference speech from early in the week and other pieces.
Seemed strange watching banks on TV's showing Blair all except Sky.
Sky do beat N24 and visa versa but to not be at something like that seems a little poor.

And 'even CNN beat them to the stories'

What is 'even' supposed to suggest? That CNN are slow on a regular basis? Because that is simply not true. They're normally a hell of a lot faster than the BBC and occasionally faster than Sky. The US service certainly is.

Also, what about the biggest news story of recent times, the WTC attacks? Even the ITN News Channel managed to beat the BBC and guess who were first to report in the UK. Yes, it was Sky.

Yeah, I thought that too - very strange considering it was available on AP globally. Maybe the gallery all went off to the tea-bar while replaying the speech Smile

Chesh - Beeb knew about cases & brought news about court cases, but it was hardly breaking news. First Choice again, not really breaking news. Beeb knew about missile same time as Sky... The difference between Sky & Beeb is that Beeb check their facts before broadcasting - when news of possible missile hitting plane came through, Sky took the word of one News agency copy going by timing of their announcement, Beeb wait for at least 2 copies on something like that to be positive about accuracy.

WTC? Come on matey - everyone was showing the pictures live, as it happened!

Oh and I almost forgot the BA job cuts. Not sure whether that was yesterday or not, though.

It does just sum up what's wrong with the BBC, though. The fact that instead of providing the best quality service they can they are more concerned about people liking the BBC than the quality of programming they provide. Techy Peep, are you ex-Sky? Because let's face it, many of the News 24 employees are. Oh and did News 24 get an interview with Stone's lawyer before Sky?

No.

'It was hardly breaking news'

Oh right. That would explain the big red breaking news aston you used, would it? And the prerecorded reports on the case, which obviously highlights how important it is.

The difference about the Beeb and Sky is that the Beeb is so concerned about it's repuation - not that News 24 has a reputation though - that it won't broadcast anything until you've checked all of the facts, made sure you've done this and that, got the autocue ready etc. Makes for very boring coverage.

Interestingly, one of the stories yesterday (I forget which but it will come back to me) was nicely introduced on N24 who went into the story and into the OB in time for one of the appearances of one of the people involved. Someone in the Sky studio was babbling on about terrorism and was quickly shut up!

Then later on, on the Stone case, the lawyer read out a statement, again worked nicely in by N24. Where were Sky? At the ads!! You'd have thought they'd have hung on seen as a statement was impending! I was watching N24 at the time and at the end he was asked to re-read the statement. I assume a Sky News journalist put in that request Very Happy

Cheers, Asa

Yeap, but held back on a delayed loop - again, not really breaking news

Asa, that would be just like when News 24 missed the arrival of Milosevic at The Hague because they went to the weather, would it? Whereas Sky stayed on air and waited and hence captured it live.

Refreshing to see the top rating programme on News 24 this week is a business programme, with a sports programme coming in 3rd place. Remind me... is this supposed to be a NEWS channel?
