A new computer game news and reviews channel is being launched on May 12th on the Sky Digital TV platform.
The new Friendly TV channel is currently being piloted on Sky's satellite service, showing footage from the station's general output.
The Game Network could have some stiff competition from the new channel. Friendly TV is being developed in conjunction with games developer Hi2, and will feature content from GamerWeb.com, including standard console and PC based footage, along with java games for mobile phones and interactive TV games.
The channel number has yet to be confirmed by Sky, but eager gamers can add the channel 'nd1yx' to their Sky box. Friendly TV broadcasts at 11.623Ghz Horizontal.
The channel's website reveals, 'Friendly TV features original programming with a rolling schedule of chat, quizzes, trivia and games. The content will have computer applications overlaid onto the broadcast stream that will allow the viewer to interact SMS , IVR ( premium call rate telephony ) and the red button on the remote. Friendly TV will broadcast 24 hours a day 7 days a week.'
Friendly TV will broadcast live from purpose built studios in the centre of London.
Viewers watching the live broadcasts will be able to chat with other viewers on topics of the day, answer quiz questions and win prizes, play along with onscreen games and send messages to the shows' presenters.
