Sorry, it's not that I disbelieved you, you understand
Wonder if this is to bring the service in line with Europe, as Sky Italia already has Sky Cinema branded channels, though with a different coloured logo.
Mind you they have had Sky Cinema as a name before for a channel or two so its not entirely new.
From the press release:
"Sky Cinema will be the biggest dedicated movie subscription service in Europe as Sky’s movie services in Germany, Austria and Italy are also rebranded and relaunched under the new name. Further announcements are planned in those markets in the coming months."
Wow. So, I just read up on Sky Mo- I mean, Cinema, and found out this.
Once BSB was bought out by Sky, The Movie Channel was kept, even though the name change to "Sky The Movie Channel" made the already existing Sky Movies odd. The pre-BSB Sky Movies later became Sky Movies Max. When the movie channels got the egg logo, The Movie Channel was shafted to Sky Movies: Screen 2. Then it became Sky Premier, then Sky Movies Premier, and then they just merged Premier and Max, like they should have done back in 1991. Then they rebranded to Sky Movies and numbered the dizzying array of channels 1-9 (with Sky Cinema 1 & 2!), until they were all given genres in '07, and the Sky Cinemas were merged together into Sky Movies Classics.
And now the network is rebranding back to Sky Cinema; I swear, this just feels like a roundabout that you can't get off of.
I'd say that Box Office linear channels are more likely to disappear before the linear Movie/Cinema channels, more for the fact that these earn guaranteed revenue through subscription and advertising.
I flicked past Box Office the other day and you can still watch the first five minutes of films for free.
Also, getting rid of that purple motif, and starting to get the Sky 1/Sports/News/Everything else motif.
Wait, Sky Cinema's logo looks like the old Sky News logo!
Is it just one channel? Very good news about HD getting better, one of the reasons I got rid of Sky, now all I need is a good new customer Q deal and I will be back on board.
I would question the premiers, they don't have that many good movies to premier.

They'll probably quietly scrap that "one premier a day" thing within a year or so.
Does anyone know if the genre names are all staying the same or are they changing too?
If to meet the one premier a day promise, I hope they have more leftfield or independent films in the schedule. Sky Movies Select is as close as it gets.
I've been waiting for this announcement for a while. A couple of months ago I was part of a closed group looking at the potential tag lines for the re-launch.
It was fairly obvious that it was to bring Sky UK into line with Germany & Italy, where I don't think 'movies' is a recognised term. It means they can create high quality idents/trailers and use them across their whole market.
