Sky Movies Rebrand To Sky Cinema

I've never been a fan of the Sky Movies Disney idea either (which defies the original genre-related categorisation), but after Sky Movies wanted the Disney movies, it was inevitable..

It would've been much nicer to have Disney Cinema as a (later, in order to get rid of the Mickey Mouse-shaped logos, after Disney Channel did) rebrand for Disney Cinemagic, as in France, with classy idents and a classy logo too

I agree the old Sky Movies Disney was very well produced, but perhaps a bit too long to be used as an ident. The logo animation at the end was poorly added onto the footage in my opinion. The footage would have better suited for a promo or breakfiller than an ident. The use of a single dramatic CGI ident before films better reflects the feel of a cinema especially now that the channel is called Sky Cinema.

I think peoples dislike towards live action is directed towards idents which just has any old footage with a logo applied on top, like Lifetime and Sky1's idents prior to the current rebrands on both channels. The high production values and quality animation of the Sky Movies Disney ident made up for this. Some of my favourite idents in the past have been live action, like the Channel 4 2004 and Sky1 2008 idents which put the logo center stage in the ident and integrated it in a creative and interesting way.

I certainly wouldn't think the new idents were a "rush job". There probably was a technical need to create new idents, the old Sky Movies idents were produced in HD and in 3D. The new idents would have been produced in 4K for the launch of UHD channel later this year, which I am sure will look stunning.

Completely agree - the new idents are just very generic in terms of look and sound and do feel like they're there to do the job. The previous Sky Movies idents were much more cinematic and just so well produced - love the Disney one especially and how they reworked it for Christmas.

The running time shouldn't have been a problem too - if a movie channel can't give idents time to breathe who can. It also works well as a call to action, alerting viewers who may have tuned in waiting for a movie that it's about to start. The new idents are too short to do that.

Simplicity can be great too; I personally like the new idents, it reminds me of those old "times" (also on Sky Cinema Italy), and the Sky Cinema Disney new ident is good too (adding something Disney-ish without being somehow stereotypically so)
Also, it has a great music

I liked the idents introduced on Sky Movies in 2011, but after 5 years, they got old..

The sound of a film projector at the start of the new one actually reminds me of one of the old "... O'Clock Movie" idents, which I absolutely love, not least for the ominous and chilling sound effects. Call them dated but I loved this batch of idents and stings. Creativity can only get you so far with live action footage.

Sorry for going OT, but it reminds me a little of this old gem from ITV:

Shame we don't get nothing like that these days either.

Except the Sky Cinema one is much better..

It reminds me more of the Sky Movies Premier 2002 ident:

BTW I think the channels only went very genre-based in 2007 because of the Sky resistence to show PIN movies throughout the day.. infact, the Italian Sky counterpart, Sky Cinema (where restrictions about PIN etc. are somehow less strict), was already more genre-based before that

Multiple Soundtracks have been created. Do some of the channels use different soundtracks to others? https://soundcloud.com/molecularsound/sets/sky-cinema-idents

Here's what I think Excite, Heartfelt. Joy, and Sinister will be used for...

Excite: Action & Adventure
Heartfelt: Drama & Romance
Joy: Family
Sinister: Crime & Thriller

(this is just going by names alone)

I didn't think there was any variation on the soundtracks at all (aside from Sky Cinema Disney) - just seems to be the Joy soundtrack used across the board.

Yes, Star Trek replaces Tom Cruise at 0600 on Monday.

Pop up channels will be more common from now on.
