I agree, those golden angels looked true Hollywood quality, must've been really expensive too. I wonder how they're going to market numbers 1-9! I can't see them sticking out as brand images. Although Sky do really put a lot of thought and effort into branding

I don't see how they can market a two-tiered movie service which is numbered 1-9.

Is this a clue to the new look?

They've bloody used my Skynews 2004 colour scheme. Very Happy Razz Wink
I hope this new look is an improvement?!

I have re-created the logo in that image, to make it larger and clearer for people.

I personally like it, deffinatly an evolution of the old logo, I hope the on-air look works well...

What the hell is there to like about it? It's a bit of text with an irrelevent symbol next to it. Or is it the fact that it has the Sky logo on it? Laughing

Its a cleaner, updated version of the current logo, and the symbol is interesting. Its nothing amazing, but it is a neat little thing, with fresh colours and a nice take on the curved rectangle logo...

I will miss the dark ambient approach, if it goes all light. The current premier ident is remarkible in terms of lighting, structure and sound. I dont think a lighter version would make it better, it would make it seem like daytime tv. It's like going to the cinema to have the lights left on when the film has started!

I'm not buying that. Come on Martin, you're supposedly a designer so how on earth can you describe it as being cleaner than the current one? It's the same, but with naffer colours and some completely irrelevent bits in the rectangular shape.

And why do you end all of your posts with '...' ? Are we supposed to think, "ooh, he knows what he's on about"? Just admit that you only like it because it has a Sky logo on it.

Why on Earth they're changing their look already is beyond me. They should never have ditched the old Sky Premier look in my opinion.

The "irrelevent symbol" looks like the edge of a strip of film if you look at it carefully. the larger rectangle on the left is where each frame of the film is with the smaller rectangles on the right being where the projector grips onto the film.

The current logo has a busy background, and also has 3 rectangles after it. This has a brighter choice of colours, simpler background, and one rectangle which includes the 3 rectangles and also resembles the pur notches of 35mm flm.

As for why they are changing their look, its pretty obvious... Would you like me to repeat it?

They are dropping their sub-brands (premier, max) and they are redesigning the way they offer and present their movies. They are also making Sky Movies Cinema into 2 seperate channels which will show World Cinema films as well as old classics.

To show the public, they are changing they way they do things, they are refreshing their image.

Seems an easy explaination. Whether you agree with it or not, is up to you, but it wont change my opinion that, this is a cleaner interpretation of the current logo with the rounded rectangles.

I must admit this new logo looks rather fresh and modern...I'll reserve judgement until November.

Yes, but logos and presentation that looks “modern” today has a very nasty habbit of looking tired and cliché tomorrow.

Take Sky|One for instance. Minimalist design, vectors, single bright contrasting shades… it looks naff already. A year or so ago, these "look" was everywhere....

Not to mention the rash of 'people idents' that everybody's using nowadays. It would be a crime if Sky Movies fell into that trap.
