I think you're right comparing it to a Rental Store, as that is where Sky Box Office (and Virgin's FilmFlex) like to compete to. I don't agree with the Cinema though, it's a really different thing, at the Cinema you're going to a different place to see something brand new to your eye, and it will be the only place you can see it until a few months after it's intial release.
I don't believe in Renting anymore, chance being you've seen the Film, you may pay to watch it on Box Office which is convienient, where as if you buy the Film chance being you won't pay anymore than £15 and after a month or two the prices sharply come down. For instance I picked up King Kong (2006) for only £3.99 in Morrisons, granted it's not that price everywhere but at most places it's coming down.
As for the Sky Movies logo, I like it, it's different and better than the bog standard Sky font we've been used to for over 5 years or so now, only Sky Sports is the next main part of Sky that still uses the font.

I don't think £3.95 for a movie is a "rip off"; a DVD rental from a store or going to the cinema is often more expensive.

Indeed renting is a pain. I tried with the Film4 mail thingy when it started (because it was free for a month I think), but you have to remember to send them back.
As for the likes of Blockbusters et al, you spend hours in there picking something, and again have to take it back. Years ago we used to go to BB and pick a few DVDs for the weekend. OK, you could fall asleep watching them one night and so watch it again the next, but you can do that with SBO on Sky+. I think the days of renting DVDs are over.
