The numbering was much better really - they could still associate certain themes with each channel, but give the audience the credit of being able to acknowledge that "Action / Thriller" are most likely to be found on Sky Movies 7 etc.

I would guess though as On Demand becomes more dominant, it would be Sky Movies which is probably amongst the most vulnerable.

With sport and to a certain extent, traditional programming, people will watch them live - but with movies there is less incentive to do so, and I think people expect now to be able to watch films at a time of their choosing.

Sky can never win, to be honest with you. When the channels were just numbered, people moaned that they should have genre-specific channels. Now they are genre-specific, people complain that the numbered channels were better. I personally can't see any problem with the way it is now.

I think it's excellent how most of the films on Sky Premiere are on the Sky Anytime service too. Sky Anytime is another thing people complain about, as it uses part of the hard drive, but more often than not I can find something to watch on it (sometimes from channels I'd usually just ignore too - I've watched a number of things off documentary channels).

Cut them some slack, eh!

The only real problem is the amount of times they change!

DS: Minor name tweak for Sky Movie Channels

Yes, Sky Movies will be getting a minor name refresh in february, the SD and HD branded channels will become Sky Movies Screen 1/2 and Sky Movies Screen 1/2 HD.

Not again.

I wish they'd make up their mind what they want to call these channels.
Just call the whole lot Sky Movies and have done with it.
It works well enough for Sky Box Office which is spread out over 52 channels.

its a dying model, Sky Movies I am sorry to say, I bet their subscribers must be at an all time low, the broadcast quality is worse then DVD, and with upteenth repeats, this is like Premiere in Germany, but with Premiere they are worse!

I used to have the movies on Telewest but now we there are so many films on Demand I stopped paying for Sky Movies and just watch the odd film on demand. makes like so much easier being able to press play when I'm ready!

Wonder how many subscribers there are to movies via cable?

It's actually at a high, but has been relatively flat in an era of growing satellite subscribers. There's about 5 million satellite subscribers and half a million cable subs.

and out of that they can't be many movie subscribers, there are much better alternatives now then 15 years ago.

No, the numbers quoted are the Sky Movies subscribers. It's actually about 4.5m on Sky, 0.5m on cable, so around 5 million overall.

I used to have Sky Movies, but cancelled it when they went genre-based. I prefer to pay £5 to watch a film on Box Office that an extra £10 a month for Movie World.

If I think a film is good enough then I'll wait a few months and buy the DVD instead!

I've found DVD Rental from Amazon a good solution for watching the movies I want to watch, when I want to watch them.
