So, it's getting converted into a 24-hour advertisement for Sky's services in other words?

Working together for the common good. I present the combatants.

1: The BBC. An organisation based in an ivory tower whose sole purpose is to tip toe around the government so that it can get more money off the public.
Upsides: home of quality entertainment, culture and hours of live sport.
Downside: aloof and still very much old-school.
What will they bring to the battlefield?: The brains, lawyers and experience.

2: ITV. An organisation which has shunned almost everything that made it what it is: regionality, individuality, progression and reliability. Rubbish at anything but bog-standard TV - a failed Sport channel, failed as a DTT platform, failed at Interactive TV, a failed News channel, and primed for a takeover.
Upside: The Bill.
Downsides: Almost everything else.
What will they bring to the battlefield?: They'll make the tea.

3: Channel 4. A PSB which pushes back the boundaries and serves the unserved. Edgy and different. Prone to frequent mistakes and risks.
Upsides: The channel that has a rich history of quality programming and modern classics.
Downsides: You wonder if the guys at the top have **** for brains sometimes.
What will they bring to the battlefield?: They won't give up, even if they're losing.

and their enemy

Sky. A company bankrolled by other companies, which is both a platform and a channel producer. Bullys that whinge, they are primarily responsible for the dire state of British football wages and ticket prices, and wield untold power due to being in bed with both UK and US governments. Recently tried to rip Richard Branson off...and failed.
Upsides: Channel upon channel of choice.
Downsides: Channel upon channel of sh!te
What they will bring to the battlefield: Bricks.

To be honest the entire state of the platform is a mess. Pay tv on DTT failed as we all know! So the entire idea of freeview was that it was free and simple , a cheap alternative to going digital that remained simple. Now the likes of top up tv and sky even trying to edge on to the platform mess the thing up taking up valuable bandwith creating huge customer confusion and a great big bloody mess! A person not in the know will probably not understand why their cheap freevieew box for 30 squid wont play some channels when they presumed the entire hting was free. I just hope OFCOM or sombody sees sense and makes freeview truely FREE-TO-VIEW again!......ok rant over.

Well this service would be in addition to, not in place of Freeview.

Are you sure about ITV and C4? They own their 'D3&4' multiplex and ITV owns MUX A (the 'SDN' mux) but they aren't part of the freeview consortium. ITV put in a rival bid to Freeview
