Normal Sky digiboxes are getting it in two, the first having already been delivered.

The first one was the whole subtitles/narrative thing...right? Whats in the next one? Is it just extra channels?

First download was indeed for subtitles via the help button and additional parental control options plus enabling radio via 0 plus 3 numbers.

Part two will introduce a new look to the EPG, not all that radically different. It will further extend the parental control options, allowing the user to remove adult channels from the EPG. The release should tie in with the introduction of new EPG categories and radio stations moving to the 4 digit system.

The new EPG will be...
(Page 1)
1. All Channels
2. Entertainment
3. Lifestyle & Culture
4. Movies
5. Sports
6. News
7. Documentaries
8. Kids
9. Music
0. More

(Page 2)
1. Radio
2. Shopping
3. Religion
4. International
5. Gaming & Dating
6. Specialist
7. Adult

Planner will go under the Green Button.
So thankfully all the quiz channels will go into Page 2 option 5, and as such will move from their current position in the EPG.

The EPG will look like this...

Any word of (the) new channels that might come with the update? I was really hoping that they might put BBC World on for the ROI but I e-mailed them and they said that they have no plans.

You'll be busy enough anyway trying to learn new EPG numbers.

Some new channels are due soon though on DSAT.

Paramount +1, FX2, ABC1 and Sky Vegas Live 2 are the main ones to launch soon.

Has anyone else had crashes when trying to turn on subtitles via the new "Help" menu? I have to unplug the box to get it back up.

Those of us with Sky+ are still waiting for our upgrade, but we'll probably get it all in one hit.

Regarding the original post, it's not generally advised to force a software download. The software available from there will always be the last version until the everyone's got the new one, because it's used as a back-up; if the new software messes up your box you force a download of the old one and it should be back to normal.

AFAIK the box has two bits of memory for the software, the current version on one and it downloads the new one onto the other. When the download is complete, or when there's a trigger time, they switch over and the new software is in place, and the old one is wiped ready for whenever the next download is. So, your box might have the new software almost ready to go live, then you force download the old software which wipes over the new one and have to wait even longer for the update!

So, don't do it!

Well I'm looking forward to FX2 and Paramount +1!

Does anyone else think we should be able to remove religious channels as well? Personally I find a lot of what they have to say much more offensive than the sight of a tit or arse. If I had children I'd be a lot more worried about them watching the bigoted, narrow-minded outpourings of these awful channels than them catching sight of a bit of human flesh.

IMHO it should be able to remove any channel of your choosing, (i'd get rid of anything with a premium rate text in service) but then again, maybe I should just buy a non-Sky Digibox.

It'll be interesting to see if Tivo update their UK boxes to cope with the 4 digit numbers. Even if it is only for Radio services initially, many people use their Tivos to record radio shows...

See new thread, I got the new Sky EPG on my Pace (v1) at 4am today. It has the new screen (light blue with glass logo) but not reorganised EPG channels.

It buggered up my phone line and broadband for hours. I rang AOL & BT who checked the Broadband line and said it was OK, then BT said "unplug the Sky+ box" so I did. I rang Sky, who said they were NOT DOING A SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD TONIGHT, and didn't know when it would be done for Sky+ boxes.

They lied - at 4am Sky Movies 2 went down, and came up with new software on channel 999.

My Broadband is fine now too. I wish they has just been honest and explained that the constant calls from my Sky+ box were buggering up my broadband! Shocked Shocked Shocked
