I'm not sure if this is accurate as my Sky box is integrated into a TV, but to do mine, i hold down the "Back Up" button on the box itself whilst i turn it on, and then i get a "UPDATING SOFTWARE" screen. White writing on plain black background for about 20 minutes. I've heard it is the same on normal Sky boxes too.

As for if there is an update or not, i have no idea.

yep, same for most boxes I believe. Remember doing it loads of times trying to recieve the new Open.. software.

How times change.

Yes, it's the same procedure for a normal Digibox to force an upgrade. I have heard stories of people completely knackering up their boxes by doing this though. Older boxes are particularly vulnerable, as are those receiving a weaker or poor quality signal.

Unless your box is unplugged at the mains overnight, you will have the latest available software for it, so forcing an upgrade is rarely necessary, and rarely worth the risk... unless you don't mind rendering your Digibox useful only as a novelty paperweight.

My Sky box had this new thing were you pressed Help and you got a thing up on the taskbar with "Subtitles" and "Narrative" on it, with "Yes/No" By eacdh of them.

Now having Sky+, I don't have that. Has it been sent to me or is something wrong?

Sky+ has not had the new software yet so I wouldn't worry.

I read somewhere that the rumour is Sky employees with Sky+ are testing it before it is released to everyone else.

Sky+ is getting all the new features in one download. Normal Sky digiboxes are getting it in two, the first having already been delivered.

How does it download, or does it warn you, or what?

Normally, it downloads into the second bank of memory and is loaded into the main memory overnight.

By doing the manual update it's possible you may erase the new software and you'll have to wait until it's broadcast again.

I've just got Sky Multiroom.

I shant bore you with the full details, but our equipment was a 5 year old Amstrad, which died, which prompted us to go multiroom.

Our setup is now Pace Sky + box downstairs, while I've got a Thomson standard box upstairs, replacing the Amstrad.

Has the Thomson boxes been updated yet, because the Amstrad was updated before it died?
