So this must have been a blow to terrestrial tv and free premier league football as we knew it. Football was a whole new ball game when you got to pay for it.

On the topic, has anybody found the legendary Ford Super Sunday " Here we go, here we go, this is it!" theme from any library or site? Any clues on the people involved in making it? (At 1:00 in the clip.)

On the other hand there is a lot more football on TV these days. Remember there was no live First Division football on TV at all until the mid-1980s and after that it was the (Big) Match once a week. I don't recall there being a whole pile of European football coverage in that era either (although I do appreciate English teams being excluded from European competitions in the late 1980s might have had something to do with that). The lower leagues didn't get live coverage on TV at all - IIRC only playoffs were shown in the 1990s - until comparatively recently.

Thanks to Sky there is now football on TV nearly every day of the week, and there are three to five Premier League games on TV each weekend.

That theme posted above lasted most of the 1990s as I recall. Its' probably ridiculously long by todays standards and the voiceover is as cheesy as hell. Worth noting that it was only used for Super Sunday - Monday Night Football had a separate theme which Football Special (when it started) also used.
