I see Sky have got to hand over some live games - eight in total. The question is, will Sky vastly reduce how much it paid now the package isn't exclusive.

If they do - how many clubs will go bust?

Thanks to that "lovely" organisation, the European Union ...

I suspect it's the best deal that could be done in the circumstances. I'd imagine that we would see

i) a couple of games featuring the current champions, (2)
ii) and one each from the other Champions League and UEFA Cup qualifiers (5)
and a match chosen at the end of the season featuring the title contenders. (1)

Sky are expected to honour the deal to clubs as previously negotiated. They would be very foolish to challenge this - Football funds Sky and I think that they have a lot more to lose than eight games worth of coverage.

I don't expect the clubs like it but it's the best that could be hoped for.

Well apart from that this is good news people who don't have Sky finally get to see Premier League football decides Sky have too much football I'm glad the European Union have put a stop to Sky's dominance.

After the 2006-2007 season, the Premier League will not sell the entire Premier League package to a single broadcaster.

that will make things interesting when it come into force!

i wonder if that will mean a free to view channel or if another pay tv one will get them???

or if things have changed so much by then Sky Sports is just another sports channel rather than the home of sport
