I've got a querie that needs answering. I have a PACE Sky Box, which was supposed to be one of the first to get the new software downloads (e.g. new categories etc.). However, I still have to get it. Why is it taking so long?

You can do a forced upgrade which may update it straight away. Just switch your box off at the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in and hold down 'Back up' on your box until a message comes up saying that your box is being upgraded. When the message goes off after 10-15 minutes, wait another 5 and turn on your box. You might have the update by then.

EDIT: Apologies, I will assuming you had a Sky+ box. Regular Sky boxes should have that upgrade very soon (if they haven't already).

Where does it say that PACE boxes are first in line for the new EPG and software?

Forced upgrades have a habit of not doing what they say on the tin - quite a lot of boxes won't load the new software after a forced upgrade, either because it hasn't downloaded it yet or it hasn't been given the ok by Sky to use it.

But they are useful when the software breaks for the umpeenth time in as many times.

Anyway isn't the new EPG not due out until the END of February? It's only the 20th.

Generally, Pace boxes are first to be upgraded.

I think Sky have released the software on the forced download stream (for Sky+ at least).

The channel numbers change at the end of this month, but the new channel categories (pressing green for the planner) have been released to all Sky+ customers and shortly all regular Sky customers should have it.

I've had the new categories on an old Pace Sky box for about a week now...numbers will all change when all boxes have been upgraded.

I've got a PACE box, and I've already received the new categories upgrade. Just awaiting for the channel upgrade which should happen next week.

I would certainly NOT be tempted to do a forced download on a standard Sky box just yet. Although All Sky+ boxes now have it, I believe they are still working through all the models of standard digiboxes (there are many more than with Sky+).

I think this has been explained many times last year when the design of the EPG changed (colours, logo etc). Basically the box might already have the new software loaded, but not yet given the signal by Sky to swap to using it. By doing a forced download you would simply be erasing the "stored" new version and replacing it with the one in current use for that model of digibox.

This essentially delays you receiving the new software until Sky get round to transmitting it again for that model (probably after all the others have been done to "mop" up those who might have missed the download the first time round because their box was unplugged for whatever reason).

To me these channel numbers seem to be a mess. I can understand most of it, setting the channels apart, etc.
But I thought that this is an ideal time to group everything together.

For example, I thought that UKTV G2 +1 would have been moved up to 112, and UKTV Drama would have been moved up to 113 (to keep all of the entertainment UKTV channels together.

More 4 +1, is also sat alone, they haven't moved that up to 143 next to the new numbers for E4 & More 4.

The kids channels haven't changed, even though Trouble have said that on the day of the changes Trouble will be moving from 607 & 608 to 201 & 202. Plus with Toonami moving to 602, where will Cartoon Network +1 fit? And if they move them higher to have Cartoon Network start at 600, the proposed Boomerang +1 will still be out.
