this news was announced quite a while ago now but has anybody heard about the so-called EPG 'overhaul' on sky. There was loads about it on the media websites a few months back but there has been completely nothing recently.

is it still going ahead?

I think the talk of the new categories is to be implemented with a software update soon - I know that there are some very BIG changes on the way though.

Not everyone has the existing software yet though, my Sky+ is still without the subtitle menu when you press help.

The current software version hasn't been entirely rolled out yet - this will give accessibility options (i.e. subtitles) from the help button, and will kill the red dot after 30 seconds if you want to.

In the Autumn, the EPG is getting a new look, and new categories. Most channels will be receiving new channel numbers, and all audio channels will have 4 digit channel numbers.

Interestingly with my digibox, pushing the number 0 will give you an audio symbol in the left corner and prompt you to enter three digits.

Yep - that's ready for the new radio EPG - radio channels will have channel numbers in the format 0***

Am I right in assuming that they've already moved the special channels away from the old three digits starting with zero?

I'm referring to channels like 041 for Sky Sports One ALWAYS in 4:3 and permanently without the red dot, for projection systems in pubs.

I believe the other broadcasters also used to have access to those channels on their special cards.

Anyone know?

I've seen pictures in the Sky magazine and in pictures they've release displaying an EPG looking different to the one we have.

Is this a sneaky peek at the new EPG or something different?

..and with a little pint glass in the corner, to let Sky's spies know that they've paid enough for it too..

I've always wondered why there appears to be a pint glass on some of the Sky Sports footage on the news... I always thought it was "reccommended tipple for viewing this programme" lol

Indeed.

Hence my comment about other broadcasters having access to those channels.

one thing which irritates me with my current version of sky's software, when you scroll right or left through programmes whilst watching a programmes, you used to be able to press select once which turned it green, then again to turn autoview on. now it de-selects it. i rang sky (it was a slow dayt) and they told me it was a software 'improvement'
bloddy irritating if you aske me.
