I have a Pace Sky+ (v1) and I seem to remember we were at the end of the queue for the last software upgrade
I read that post on DS, and I suspect he was just very fortunate to have done that at the EXACT same time as the software was being released for his make/model of box.
Forcing a download simply reloads the existing authorised software for that make/model, and also (more importantly) empties the cache - which is where the new software is stored before Sky send the signal to switch versions.
Therefore, if you force a download and the new software is already held in the cache then you will delete it, and will have to wait until Sky resends it for that make/model (probably some weeks later).
Not a good idea

Pace boxes tends to get the updates first, but remember it's just new categories, the real EPG reshuffle will happen a month later.
