I'm guessing 18 so you can have a Direct Debit in place, and be able to sign a binding contract.
I'm sure their customer services could help.

18, because:
A) They only accept payment by direct debit or credit card, neither of which you can have before 18.
B) You'll be contractually obliged to stay with them for 12 months, people under 18 cannot sign contracts.
If you have the money though, then try and see if you can get an adult to sign up on your behalf and reimburse them (this is how I managed to subscribe to On Digital when I was still 17)

I know it's irrelevant because of point B, but you can pay by invoice. I do, but they charge an extra £4 a month for it.

I pay by debit card, you dont have to be 18 to have a solo card. But even if I was under 18 it's in my Dads name anyway.
It's true that you don't have to be 18 to have a deit card. But direct debits cannot usually be linked to Solo or Visa Electron cards, which are designed more for in person shop transactions rather than for remote transactions.
