Forumers all,

Can you please tell me exactly much it costs to have a basic Sky Digital package, from the set top box, dish, new aerial, BBC Regional digital service, every cost you can think of.

Do you have to pay a £30 subscription if you don't want any of the pay channels, for example? My parents are concerned that Sky Digital will be very expensive to have.

Can you be completely honest and tell me how expensive/cheap it is? Also, are there any special offers around at the moment that will make it cheaper to have?

I found it virtually impossible to get Sky Digital without a subscription - although technically you can, no one seems to want to sell it to you. Went with a basic subscription package with ONDigital in the end - £8 per month.

If you don't want to subscribe to any Sky World packages, you still get a free Minidish and Digibox, but you have to pay £100 for the installation rather than £50 for a Sky World or £70 for any other subscription.

There was a £25 installation floating around recently .. but I can't remember how to get it!!

Subscriptions can cost up to £34 per month for a Sky Digital package, but that includes Sky Movies, Sky Sports etc. The package I have is the £16/month and I get most of the channels!

Go to Sky.com or phone 08702 42 42 42 if you want to know more!

Agreed, the £16 package is by far the best. You get nearly all the channels with the exception of Sky Sports/Movies, FilmFour, Disney, Asian Channels and Porn!

It is really good value for money.

Why would you need a new aerial? All the terrestrial channels will come through the digibox, and if you can get all the terrestrial channels fine now through your current aerial why change?

I think I need a new aerial as we can't get Channel 5 clearly, we're still in the fuzzy-vision stage, PLUS, the only way we can get the aerial to stay plugged is due to the fact we've got half the world's supplies of Blu-Tack wedging it into the socket!

New aerials can cost as little as £10-15, or as much as £40 - it's up to you!!

If you go for Sky Digital you obviously won't need a new aerial as Channel 5 is on DSAT.

Channel 5 is notoriously bad in Lincolnshire, while I was at home I tried numerous times to get it working on my TV with a multitude of different aerials, and seeing as Boston is just down the road from where I lived (Tattershall), I wouldn't hold much hope, same goes for DTT, the reception can be iffy, despite being in direct line of sight with the Belmont transmitter.

But remember if you're planning on relying on Sky for your recording that you can only record on channel at once (unless you want to fork out for Sky+) so it's probably best not to burn your aerial just yet!

Yep, it's somewhere in the region of £35-£50.
