I've got Sky Freesat, but tonight I can watch all the channels - I can't imagine it's just me. The only one I can't get is BBC HD, because I've only got the basic Pace box.

Aha, thanks for that - I've moved twice since I got Freesat, so I never got the letter telling me about this. Seems to me, though, that if someone's gone to all the trouble of actually finding out about Sky's Freesat (because it's not exactly over-advertised!), they're probably pretty much decided against paying Sky a monthly subscription (which is what I told the sales rep who cold-called last year).

Still, interesting to flick through the umpteen channels and find exactly two things I'd want to watch if I did have a Sky Subscription - repeats of The Fast Show or South Park . I'd include Heroes on Sci-fi, but I saw that weeks ago... somehow...

Can I just ask David, as you aren't subscribed to any of the channels, do you have to deal with all the channels still appearing but with that "To subscribe to this channel, call..." thing everytime you turn to that channel? Or are they cleverly removed from the EPG?

No, they're all there. I've just stuck the BBCs, the ITVs, 4, 5, etc into Favourites and use the blue button to run through them in the banner. Beyond that, I have Digiguide on my laptop as my EPG.

Normally if I boot from "cold" a box that has no card or an inactive viewing card it will only display FTA channels (and occasionally Sky One) plus the PPV channels. These are generally on boxes with older software (pre-glass logo), and not doing so is one reason that would put me off getting Free Sat. Another being the lack of E4.

I don't get you - if you got Freesat you would have an active viewing card.
