I've just had a look under the Services menu and noticed that options have been added to control Sky Anytime. I've disabled it which has had the effect of stopping the whirring noise which was coming from the box, thank God. I think I'd have gone crazy if I'd had to listen to that thing all day long!
This feature has only just appeared on my Sky+ box today. It looks like a load of rubbish. The one thing that is bugging me is that the box has been whirring away all day today...even when it is in standby and not recording. It is rather annoying and I hope it doesn't do that forever now!
Give it a few days, as there are some good things that turn up on there, but if you still find it's not to your taste and the disk whirring away in the morning is too loud, then you can turn it off in the setup menu.

There's the odd film that appears on the list that I may want to watch, but as all I generally watch Sky One for is The Simpsons and Braniac; I don't subscribe to most of the other channels so can't view their VoDcasts; and most of the movies can be seen ad nausium on their respective channels through the week, my Anytime planner is, for the time being, being left switched off.
I may come back if or when channels other than Sky's are listed - some terrestrial catchups or something from UKTV etc.
