Can't see any other threads for this, but shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong.

So .. Sky Anytime TV has appeared on my Sky+ box. Clicking it gives me a dozen on demand shows that my box has recorded at some point, and none of which I want to see; half of which I can't because I don't subscribe to those channels. Not sure whether I'll make use of this service even when the choices start getting a little more juicy ... depends how good the programmes "they" offer me are.

I noticed this today too, so Sky have to copy Virgin don't they. Right so how does it work? does it pick up on the stuff you watch etc?

Or does everyone just get the same on demand stuff?

My bets on this one. There will be loads of stuff you never watch and you'll have to pay extra to get the stuff you do what.
Will this another rip off from sky i wonder?

Everyone gets the same on demand content downloaded to their boxes overnight (of course HD users get HD content on top).

Right two words spring to mind right now.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Virgin that invented VoD.

Which given that my box is right next to my bed will be particularly annoying (Light sleeper + whirring hard drive = grr).

All I see is 3 programmes from channels I've never even watched.

Looks like it has a long way to go...

I have 12 decent programmes. It takes a while for everything to be downloaded (there'll probably be more from tomorrow morning as it seems to download overnight).

Actually, it's Top Up TV they've copied! Basically like TUTV, programmes are recorded directly to your Sky+ box, presumably overnight.

It can really only be a short term solution for Sky - if they want to compete in VoD they're going to have to go the IPTV route and like BT Vision do with Freeview, launch a hybrid box offering Sky channels in the usual way and the on demand content via a broadband connection.

Hasn't appeared on my Sky+ box yet. I take it you select it like an option such as Planner?

Speculation is that Sky are launching a true VoD service next year through the broadband connection at the back of the box.

One can only hope.

It depends on what box you have. (See here).

You press the red button in the TV Guide to get access. The EPG is faster and an 'Auto Standby' feature are included in the update (which some users on DS have reported to have wiped their planner).

Excellent, my box is version 4F21 so it will be able to cram Sky Anytime on it. Guess i just have to wait a bit longer.
