One other question, when I ordered Sky+ over the phone the gentleman said that they sent a signal to all of the current boxes so that it can now record 40 hours instead of 20. Have any Sky+ users here noticed the difference?

Bit misleading, that guy doesn't seem to know much about hard disks if thats what he said, you can't change 40gb hard disks to 80gb hard disks via a "signal" Cool Anyway, the new Pace v3 boxes actually have 160gb Hard Disks, although they are partitioned so you can only use 80gb of that (40 hours)... People are speculating on what the other half is for, the most popular reason seems to be the new VOD service sky is planning...

Slightly unfair for us v2 users who paid the same only 2 months ago Crying or Very sad

If Sky gave away free boxes then they should do the decent thing and give v2 users upgrades to v3. If they did I'm sure they would be more likely to upgrade to Sky+ 160. Does anybody know if in the near future Sky will have a box that will allow people to record two channels and watch a third like these new Telewest boxes?

You can record two channels and watch something you have recorded earlier, but as the box only has two LNB inputs, a third live/record is not possible. The LNB supplied with all Sky+ units has four outputs so you can upgrade to multi-room easily (for an extra £10 a month).

While TiVO certainly has some better features, you can only record one thing at a time, and the listings are only updated once a day. Of course it doesn't cost you £10 a month.

While this is certainly true, bear in mind that the TiVo as we have in the UK is very much a mark one product. Later versions in the States have multiple simultaneous channel recording, tying-in with the main broadcast EPG as Sky+ does etc. All while remaining the most stable and versatile platform available.

I honestly don't know what I'll do when TiVo stops support, or the box breaks. There is nothing available which does what I have grown accustomed to currently on the market -- half a decade after TiVo's release. You'd have thought that the simple act of remembering a season pass over more than a week would be easy to implement, sadly it seems not.

It's going to be one of those Concorde moments, where technology takes a backwards step, when TiVo dies.

I hope Telewest's works better than Sky+. Apparently, due to the signals being sent via cable there is room for an extra tuner so hopefully the prices are good.

Oh **** I'm getting Sky+ put in on Tuesday!! I've made an awful mistake haven't I? So is there nobody here that hasn't had any major bad experiences with it?

I changed from Telewest because I just wanted to see more channels like E! and FX. There's an interesting article on Digital Spy about the new Telewest box, you can record two programmes and watch a third channel unlike Sky's where you can record two programmes but can only watch a third recorded programme. Another reason i went to Sky was because Telewest are taking too long in bringing this box out.

Read about it here.

Ive had Sky+ for over a year now, and Ive had no problems with it, apart from one or two failed recordings, that was due to programmes overlapping though.

Totally agree!! No more having to sit through ads as well

The idea of "series link" is that it records the "series" of the programme that you are asking Sky+ to record. Its more than likely that the series of OFAH shown UKTV Gold is not within the same series of OFAH shown on BBC1. Therefore you wont get that recording between the two because they're not showing the same series.

I also agree. I've had Sky+ for about 4 months now and couldn't do without it. I've only had one failed recording (in the middle of one of the recent thunderstorms). One other only recorded half a film, but that was because it was on five and I forgot to set it to record each segment (after the TOTH news headlines Confused - so that was my fault)

I quite often set it to record something, and then start watching after about 15-20 mins - that was you can happily skip though the adverts and still finish watching at the same time as the programme ends Very Happy .

I find that it has released me entirely from the scheduling imposed by the main broadcasters - I watch what I what, when I want to. Of course, in the past I could have always used the video, but that was only if I didn't want to watch anything else at the same time (my terrestrial signal is so bad that I've actually disconnected the ariel).

I often flick through the EPG and just press "record" if I think something might be entertaining. This way whenever I want to spent a couple of hours "chilling" in front of the TV I always have something to watch! Very Happy Very Happy

Not bad really for only splashing out £49 for the box (little more than one months subscription!)

Do Sky install on Saturday or Sundays? I take it they do, but I just need to be sure.

They're supposed to, because we initially wanted an installation on a Sunday, but they rang up on the day, saying that the engineers were sick or summat, so we rescheduled during the week instead, because my sister(The sad trekkie / Most Haunted fan one!) was off !

Don't rely on a weekend!

Yep. If you order online it gives you a calendar where you can see when the next installation date is.

WHAT Exclamation Confused: Exclamation Shocked Series link is for the channel the programme is on and not the programme no matter which channel it's on? They never made that clear! I thought that if you wanted to record a show like Frasier it would tape all of the episodes no matter which channel it was on.

What a ******** you are. Didn't you read the insturctions?

I'm inclined to beleive it was just you.

It doesn't make any logical sense to have a series link that picks up *different* series on *different* channels.

Logically, I should be able to set it for the current series of EastEnders on BBC1, or an old series on UKTV Gold.

But to get BOTH would require me to link the series separately.
