If you get a Sky+v3, which you undoubtably will you'll get 40hrs recording.

As to your other question, yep. If for example BBC MotD is moved from 10:45 to 11:05, as with last night then Sky+ will pick up the move and record it.

The only restriction is if the programme is moved more than 6 hours.

Hope I'm not being a nuisance but this is the first time I've been able to ask people these questions and they know the answers. Thank you by the way mromega and gregmc.

How easy is it to record your show off the Sky+ box and onto a video or DVD recorder and have either you ever done this?

As easy as connecting a Scart and Press the Copy button in the Sky+ planner. This will start playback to the device you are copying to. N.B. You won't be able to watch anything else while this is happening, but it's good for archiving stuff.

If you wanted all the new episodes on BBC One, series link it on BBC One, then if you also want the UK Gold repeats, series link it on UK Gold aswell

What good is that if the BBC4 show an episode aswell while your away?
why can't it have a feature that says everytime the show (eg) 'Porridge' it records how hard would it be to put the progamming in the memory for that

Indeed. I have both, and the number of times I've kicked myself for recording on Sky+ rather than TiVo I've lost count of. Whereas Sky+ seems to be constantly failing, or "forgetting" series links and not bothering to record episodes I've lost count of.

On the other hand the only time TiVo has *ever* crashed in five years of ownership was when the HDD crashed earlier this year (hardly the fault of the unit). It never seems to fail to record correctly.

Why TiVo failed and Sky+ has become dominant is beyond me. Although people in this country always seem to favour the lesser quality format so perhaps it isn't so surprising....

Total betamax/VHS situation. Tivo was better technology, but Sky had more cash to promote the service - which is why Sky+ won. I wouldn't trust Sky+ to record something with human supervision!

How good is Sky+ at recording shows that are split around the news, like tonight's showing of A Beautiful Mind? And do you ever miss the start or end of a show, or does it start recording a bit before the start and record a bit after the end?

With all the good reviews about Sky+ here, i'm starting to consider getting it. Really complicated with all the Telewest bills and offers at the moment though. Sad

The people at TiVO inexplicably left the marketing of their product to Sky, less than a year before Sky launched Sky+. It was not in Sky's interest to make it a successful product.

While TiVO certainly has some better features, you can only record one thing at a time, and the listings are only updated once a day. Of course it doesn't cost you £10 a month.

After a dodgy start Tivo seems to be doing quite well in America but nobody cares about it in this country.

One other question, when I ordered Sky+ over the phone the gentleman said that they sent a signal to all of the current boxes so that it can now record 40 hours instead of 20. Have any Sky+ users here noticed the difference?

Bit misleading, that guy doesn't seem to know much about hard disks if thats what he said, you can't change 40gb hard disks to 80gb hard disks via a "signal" Cool Anyway, the new Pace v3 boxes actually have 160gb Hard Disks, although they are partitioned so you can only use 80gb of that (40 hours)... People are speculating on what the other half is for, the most popular reason seems to be the new VOD service sky is planning...

Slightly unfair for us v2 users who paid the same only 2 months ago Crying or Very sad
