I think the second series has so far blown the first out of the water actually. Whilst the first was good it was largely establishing characters and their relationships, but this series has really begun to get into the psyche of the characters and as a result it's become a lot darker and deeper and has made for a very enjoyable watch. Which is why I just think it's a terrible decision. There is so much more they could explore with these characters. Even if that was it then I'd rather they ended the show instead of just bringing in a new cast and carrying it on under the 'Skins' name, because it might still be called Skins but it will be a completely different show.

Agree with every word of that.

Also even if characters did go off to University I don't really see the problem with that as there isn't really a central location - and most episodes deal with the main characters interacting with people outside the main cast more than each other - and they can still bring the characters together with visits home and visits to each other etc.

Actually, I've found this year to have been painful to watch. Unecessarily complicated and baffling storylines, shabby actors that have been introduced this year (such as 'Sketch') and dull, slow moving episodes.

That was an excellent episode of Skins tonight, it had the right balance of humour and serious topics. Daniel Kaluuya who plays Posh Kenneth in Skins really did write the episode justice. I'm saddened that they'll still axe the cast.

I agree - great episode tonight, which I was surprised about. I found Jal's episode one of the worst last years, but it's been one of the best this year.

Agreed with the above comments. A fantastic episode.

Are they getting rid of ALL of the cast?

I've heard several rumours that the new central character in Series 3 & 4 will be Effy - Tony's sister, and her group of friends.

This would make sense as they introduced 2 or 3 of her friends in last weeks show.

Exactly. I thought the point of last week's episode was that they were 'grooming' Effy and her cohort to (gradually) take the place of older characters in later episodes.

I just don't see why they can't somehow wrap up the current cast at the beginning of (or half-way through) series 3. In my opinion it'd be less of a dramatic transition from old to new.

I've heard that rumour too, but the announcement last week made no mention of it.

And frankly, if that's the case it's been pretty badly done - having them in just the one episode rather than increasingly crop up throughout the series isn't going to lead to a smooth transition.

It would have made far more sense if they said now they were phasing out the current cast during the next series and casting for younger characters to have supporting roles next year, which then grow into the main roles for series 4.

Tonight's episode left me speechless. Very emotional episode.I hope thats not the last we will see of Cassie, I hope she makes a return for the funeral in the final episode next week. Brilliant writing though.

It wont be quite the same for me without Cassie, Sid, Tony, and Chris in particular next series. They should end it here with the current cast skins will not be the same without them.

Surprised to see tonight's episode get a lot of criticism on another well known forum. Personally I thought it was the best of the series. Fantastically written. Very sad but very well done.

I agree - very well done, though didn't quite get the switch to New York. That seemed like a pilot for Skins USA tagged on the end or something - though the final scene did work well.

I agree. I get the feeling that was the last we will see of Cassie. She goes into the 'unknown' leaving us viewers to only guess what shes up to leaving it pretty open to our imaginations. Whilst I like that, I feel that as its the final episode with the original cast next week, she should make an appearance next week. Nothing beats a 'Happily ever after' closing to the Sid and Cassie story. We shall see. But I do echo the views that it was one of the best from this series. I don't think the new cast next year will be able to play up to these standards, simply because these guys were the first, it will feel too much like a newer model.
