Thanks thegeek Smile Do you know why the Six is from there? I always imagined the main bulletins were in the news centre for convienience and, moreso, security. Not that where TC7 is isn't secure.

Isn't it to do with rehearsals and pre-records? If they are in TC7 they can get in there early and practise any stand up video wall sequences and the openers as well as pre-record anything they need to.

The 10 can't come from TC7 due to Newsnight which is why the News Channel has to decamp out of their studio at 9:30. I assume that the 1 o clock doesn't do that because it's lower profile and also at one point there was Working Lunch in studio 7

I may have this wrong but regarding the 1 o'clock news does it not have the same production team as the news channel whereas the 6 and 10's is different?

I believe (but I could be wrong) The BBC News at One & the BBC News at Five share a production team and the BBC News at Six & BBC News at Ten share a production team.

Indeed but I am also under the impression that the production team for the One and Five is the same production team for the News Channel.

Well Kevin Bakhurst is the controller for the NC and the News at One. There are different editors for the six and ten. Not sure if the six and ten share the same editor or not

I'm relatively confident the Six and Ten do share the same editor. Until February last year the post was held by Craig Oliver - until he became Director of Government Communications.

The original studios BBC News used at TV Centre (having moved from Ally Pally) were 30x40 metric feet, approx, with one of them being extended slightly to become 30x50 but the extension was lower than the rest of the studio.

Originally N1 and N2, these studios are now TC10 and TC11, and available for general use hire.

I wonder where, over the years, N3, N4 and N5 have been located in TVC... and if they are still in use under new names.

BBC NI's Studio B (used for BBC Newsline - Hearts & Minds - Politics Show) is approx 185 sq metres.

N3 was the third studio and gallery on the 6th floor - where Working Lunch originally came from, and which also was a backup studio for N1 and N2 (now TC10 and TC11) It was also used for signing, and I think may have been the home of the Nine O'Clock News when it appeared to come from the newsroom (I think they opened up a wall to look onto the newsroom)

N4 was the name for the BBC Club Bar.

N5 was originally the first BBC Arabic TV News studio on the 7th floor - and operated at the same time as N1,N2 and N3. This was mothballed when the service ceased in the mid-90s, and then the studio was re-engineered (with a gallery taking up part of the studio floor) for BBC News Interactive in the early-00s, but it is no longer used.

Wasn't TC2 (the main block studio originally used for Newsnight when it moved from Lime Grove) referenced as N4 on the SCAR router?

N7 wasn't used to avoid confusion with TC7, of course.

Could have been - however AIUI N4 was also commonly used to refer to the bar... (In another BBC building VT8 was the word used to describe the pub next door...)

Would 12 x 15 m (180 sq m) be enough for a news channel to be based?
