Just realised I told a lie the other day when I couldn't recall the last BBC programe I'd watched - at that time it would have been Wales beating England last Saturday.

The BBC do a fantastic job with their rugby coverage - far less smarmy than the football - but it's interactive coverage on Freeview has suffered with the introduction of Score Interactive.

Last season on 701 you had a simulcast of BBC1 but with the commentary options - Radio and Ref usually, while on 702 you had a handy continuous highlights service.

However, Score Interactive has seen the highlights service kicked into touch. I don't understand why the audio options couldn't be done via BBC1 (they have been on occassions before!) with highlights on 701.

Also, I guarantee I've said this before - but people watch the rugby for the rugby, so especially in this interactive age (not to mention scores via Ceefax, BBCi and Radio) why do the BBC insist on putting football scores up throughout rugby coverage every few minutes?

Finally, not Rugby but on Grandstand today they had a really nice looking promo for Score Interactive - voiced by Chris Moyles I think!

I notice today the highlights feed has returned on Freeview.

The initial Rugby Interactive stuff now appears on the BBC1 feed, with the rugby highlights on 701 and Score Interactive on 702.

Much better IMO - though it seems the Audio options have had to be forfeited for this!

P.S. Noticed Grandstand was in 14:9 on analogue for the early part of the afternoon. It looks quite good in 14:9 - letterboxed to 16:9 and the BBC Sport font becomes unreadable!

A thread to myself - how nice.

Looks like the BBC don't think Wales are good enough to win their group at the next World Cup in 2007:

Quote:
If England win Pool A, then their quarter-final - possibly against Wales - is scheduled for Marseille on 7 October.

If they are runners-up in the group, a 2003 final re-match against Australia looks likely, also in Marseille.

Also, though this is second hand information - apparantly last week on Breakfast a remark was made that "we" are not interested in the Six Nations now England are out of it!

Anyhow, as another member so kindly points out I've apparantly got a reputation for slagging the BBC off - but credit where credits due, there Six Nations coverage is outstanding.

P.S. If you want to plan your TV viewing a little bit early, the schedule for the 2007 Rugby World Cup has been revealed today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/4325781.stm

ITV will do the honours again (and they do a pretty good job too!).

Sorry Brekkie Boy, I'm muscling in on your thread here.

Love the BBC rugby coverage - like all Taffies it was hard to like Jerry Guscott in the early days of his punditry career but I think he's possibly the best sports pundit on TV along with Alan Hansen and Martin Brundle. Dont get me wrong, I like Jonathan Davies but if he uses the phrase strength in depth one more time..... Twisted Evil

Another thing - why the H E double hockey sticks is Rugby Special on at such a stupid time?!!?

Re: Jeremy Guscott - it didn't do my nerves any good when he kept insisting that Wales would beat the French a couple of weeks ago!

Re: Rugby Special - agree. What I don't get is why they stick on Arrested Development first - surely it makes more sense to stick it on straight after MOTD2.
