If the Daily Mail decided to run with this then it would have been in Fridays paper.

I wouldn't be so sure, didn't Manuelgate take a week or so to surface in the Daily Mail initially?

Correct. No-one complained until the Mail On Sunday decided it was worthy of filling column inches, and they ran a puff piece. Cue suspensions, hysteria, and http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh2sWSVRrmo

if nobody watches it how do the know he swore Confused

anyway it's SIR Ian so you can't tell him off, if we had Dame Joan Rivers she wouldn't have been told off for her little expletive on loose women Wink

it's called bias, due to personal status
examples

tv personality sends offensive phone message on a radio show, gets suspended

tv personality sees a prostitute in his own private time, gets the sack

Wow. Just when you thought the TVF brow couldn't get any lower ... DING DING DING.

There does seem to be an inconsistency on whether these things are acted upon. Joan Rivers says "f*cking sh*t" on Loose Women, there's a huge stink; however not so long ago Elton John said "w*nker" live on Paul O'Grady, not so much as murmur. Yet both shows are daytime programmes!

Interestingly enough, the ASA only lists Mr John's expletive as one behind Ms Rivers' on their "severity" scale. Quite how up-to-date their data is, however, is questionable, given that the word "slag" is apparently more severe than the second of Rivers' outbursts. Let's see what TVF's swear filter makes of "slag" ...

EDIT: yup. Thought as much.

Funny you should mention that, because Coleen Nolan used the word "slag" on LW a few years back, and Kay Adams apologised profusely for it. "Sh*g" is apparently also a no-no, unless it's a reference to carpets or dancing Wink

I recall Paul O'Grady apologising on Ricky Gervais's behalf, when he said the word "sod" on POG's show-- Gervais quickly insisted it was a reference to turf!

I think "blast" is an acceptable expletive Wink
