I don't think the C4 cuts are surprising when you look at the companies who sponsor The Simpsons, it often seems to be something aimed at children despite the show itself not being a children's cartoon (though of course it has huge appeal with them).

That was a similar issue with Family Guy over here before it's 00s resurgance, was shown by both Sky One and Channel 4 in daytime and early evening slots and cut to ribbons. It was only once it turned up on BBC2, in late slots, it started getting treated properly. Looking back now it seems suprising they ever tried putting Family Guy in those slots, its reputation as an adult show is pretty entrenched now.

When it comes to watching The Simpsons on TV, we have two choices- watch Sky One where it's more or less uncut, but cropped to 16:9, or on Channel 4 where it's in 4:3, but cut to ribbons.

Recently, I discovered Sky One have been airing the 4:3 versions they always had for certain episodes again, not remastered or restored, but the original aspect ratios retained.

To be fair, the very first series of Family Guy is alot tamer than what it would later become so I can see why they put it in the slot alongside the Simpsons, the only thing I remember getting cut was some mild swearing.

The cuts did get more ridiculous later on though - I remember two episodes having their endings censored so badly they no longer made any sense! Another three episodes never got shown at all.

Didn't Futurama air at 6pm as well?

Though to be fair, Futurama wasn't as adult as Family Guy. It still airs at that time.

I remember 2 episodes of King of the Hill initially being skipped by Sky, and broadcast a year later as part of a "too hot for prime time" strand at about 11PM.

Channel 4, who had initially been broadcasting the show in that timeslot anyway on Friday nights, were airing repeats on Wednesdays at 6PM, and had no problem showing both episodes uncut!

How things change. These days it's Sky who show things uncut at 6PM and Channel 4 who cut it to ribbons.

Futurama's had plenty of morning & daytime airings over the years. It still gets it on Sky One from time to time.

Futurama was all over the shop when C4 had it. As said had some 6ish airings in their pre Simpsons era, mornings and afternoons on T4 but for a long time the new to C4 episodes were on late night - as in post midnight - on Friday and Saturday nights

I noticed the other day that Sky One are still showing that behind the scenes of Futurama programme as filler, originally made when it was first starting.

I never much liked Futurama to be honest, granted sci-fi/fantasy has never been my thing but I still didn't find it as entertaining as The Simpsons despite all the people who rave about it.
