I do remember the tagline from Domino’s sponsorship of the Simpsons - “Delivering a fresh slice of family life in 30 minutes” (must have been the days when pizza companies still claimed to deliver that quickly).
I always remember the sponsor tags with the Dominos Pizza speed dial button.
And the old Sky One Simpsons idents. One with a box springing open (Springy The Springfield Spring?!) to the Simpsons theme.
Domino's was a long-running sponsor on Sky One (and also on Channel 4 at launch) - but eventually had to give it up because of Ofcom rules around advertising foods high in fat, salt and sugar around programmes which appeal to children.
this article from 2008 has some interesting tidbits - it was the longest running entertainment sponsorship deal on multichannel TV; and "The Simpsons had the highest proportion of under-16s in its audience of any UK TV show running outside children's programming airtime or specifically targeted at young viewers."
I remember after the initial Ofcom ruling, they flipped their sponsor credits to advertise "Domino's delivery service", in case you wanted them to bring you, er, the healthier options on their menu.
Incidentally, who replaced Domino's after they left? I recall Currys sponsoring them for a while around 2009-ish, but I don't think they were directly after Domino's.
Currys took over in 2009 and as you say it wasn't directly after.
We activated our Disney+ trial last night, and dear lord I'd forgotten how bad not only the 16:9 crop job is but also that abysmal colour processing effect. It somehow looked even worse on a laptop screen than the few examples I've seen on TV.
Yes, the processing they've made to make is psuedo-HD is terrible, and would still be awful even if they left it 4:3. I hope when we finally get the 4:3 versions they haven't put it through similar processing, and that's the reason for why it's taking so long.
Wouldn't be as bad if it they'd at least gone back to the original film and done a proper HD restoration, but all they've done is put the SD footage through some processing to artificially sharpen the lines and brighten the colours. And it looks like it was rushed.
They have't even colour-corrected the green characters in the early series either in the 'HD' versions , which gets my goat. If you're going to remaster and mess with the colours, at least fix the obvious faults that should be improved on.
The new versions also lose the ' VT' look of some scenes - like the 'Eye on Springfield' titles which were covered in NTSC video effects and transitions originally, to mimic local TV news.

Same with a lot of HD restorations of 80s-00s material though, they seem to be mastered at either 24 or 30p rather than 60i, so any upscaled SD content gets filmised (which makes it stand out against the HD content even more as you're halving the resolution).
And there is actual live action videotape material in at least one Simpsons episode, one of the Treehouse of Horror ones where Bart & Lisa get sucked into the TV and one of the things they end up in is a cookery show.

Later, a huge onboard television screen displays an emergency message from a military officer, warning the crew and passengers about a deadly virus that has started to spread on the mainland. He says that all ships must remain at sea to ensure that humanity survives.
