to be honest, i prefer the earlier seasons - the comedy and writing is significantly more sophisticated than it is now. the slightly ropey animation adds to the charm.

You'll know the Season 1 Title sequence, as the bit when Bart is on the Skateboard, instead of skateboarding across the road and then Marges car comes screeching past straight away, there's a bit where he steals the Bus sign from the road as people are waiting and the bus drives straight past and the people start running to chase it. You also see an extra bit with Lisa riding her bike and the books on it jumping up and down which lead into the final bit at the house.

History lesson for you there sir.

Plus that the traffic lights in the first part have square, badly-drawn lamps.

You have both forgot the most important part (To TV pres Nuts). The TV is Different!

Also, at the bit where Homer is in the plant, instead of Mr Burns and Smithers behind him, it is some random worker. Just a little thing I noticed... Smile

Very true, since 2000 the episodes have gone downhill, granted the animation has got far better and some of the gags are also funny and relevant, but the plots are just ridiculous, though after 300 odd episodes they are going to run out of ideas. Though I'm going to say this, The Simpsons should have ended when Futurama started, which sadly ended too quickly.

Series 1 isn't shown that much on TV, the BBC showed it a couple of times, as have Sky, but it's really worth getting on DVD. On the DVD commentary of Series 1, the last episode in that Series was intended to be the first, but as the animation was and I quote; sh*t, they sent it back to be reanimated and thus was the last one in that Season.

I also never got why they never showed The Tracy Ullman sketches in the UK, IIRC the BBC refused to show them when TTUS was shown on BBC2, as The Simpsons before 1989 was only limited to commercial breaks. But when Series 1 started it already thought that the viewer was established with The Simpsons, as the first episode is a Christmas one.

Now you see I don't know why The Simpsons is still going, it is still popular over here, as new episodes on Sky One regularly attract 1 million and the 6pm repeats on Channel 4 attract 2.5 million on average. I always believe that because it took so long for The Simpsons to get established in the UK. When it arrived here in 1990, the BBC were offered the free to air rights of the programme, but they refused and for the first six years it was only available on Sky One, a major point of sale for Sky at that time. Then it only arrived on the BBC in 1996, for about 3 or 4 months on BBC1 then later on in it's more established slot of 6pm on BBC2 (and later C4) the show really took off. Hence the popularity grew in terms of audiences and merchandise, as there was very little Simpsons merchandise before 1997.
