Congress a few weeks back, introduced a law which has extended the switch-off date to June 12th to give viewers more time to get ready for the switch. Stations can still change to digital broadcasting before then, but all stations have to switch by June 12th.

Although the deadline has been delayed, as I understand it many stations are going to switchover to digital today anyways as they were already prepared to do it today.

Not quite sure acyually because they do not have scart leads in the US, as far as I remember, and know for certain that TV in Oz do not cater for scart.
Is the EU the only continent that has scart?

Yes, it's a European thing - one of its other names is the 'Euroconnector'

Apparently about 500 stations have switched off their analogue signals. Stations which are owned and operated by the networks have mostly stayed on
