For the second time in the show's history (some tweaks were made at the start of season 2), the title sequence for the Simpsons has been updated, for the move to high definition production:

The first HD episode will be tonight on Fox, and next Sunday night on Sky1 HD.

A few people might be wondering what difference HD makes to a cartoon, anyone who saw how fantastic looking the recent HD Futurama episodes looked would know the answer to this.

Personally, I sort of gave up on The Simpsons a couple of seasons ago, it just stopped being funny, but I'll have a look in on the first HD episode to see how it looks and if there's been any improvement in the writing (the movie was pretty good).

The new titles look great. They seem to have got everyone in but Burns, Smithers & Flanders - even Frank Grimes! I wonder if that billboard will become a new ever-changing gag like the chalkboard and couch?

The show can be very hit and miss these day's but it still has it's moments of genius. "You Kent Always Say What You Want" which took a swipe at censorship on TV and the idiots who complain about nothing was excellent. The Movie was surprisingly good too.

Movie was not good, it was actully poor to what we should have gotten, saying that, there are a FEW good episodes from the last 7 years!

these new titles will I dare say have come Far to late to save this show, ( I believe there do one more to get the longest running sitcom on tv then pull it!" )

the title look Great!

No they are all there too, its just the shot pans too fast to see them all.

From a TV Presentation point of view, don't Fox use 720p for their HD service? I can't imagine the quality difference being THAT subtantial as it's a cartoon. The big visual difference i think will probably be the fact the show is now in 16:9 and at best a reduction in compression artifacts.

I wonder if that billboard will have a different gag at the beginning of each episode?

Great new titles, including a widescreen television in their sitting room!

Shame really. It's sort of been a cartoon convention for years that a TV must always be an old thing with turny knobs that has the rabbit ear aerials on top of it.

Didn't Sky One show a widescreen episode a few months back? It was a Halloween episode so didn't have the normal opening anyway. I assumed at the time that the episode was shown out of sequence because Sky wanted to show it near to Halloween. Every new episode that I have caught since has been in the normal 4:3 format.

I remember that, it was a mistake, it was broadcast as 4:3 stretched to 16:9.

About bloody time as well IMO. The titles should have been changed five years ago TBH.

These look great, I imagine that that was just an extra long sofa gag due to it's first use.
