Simon Thomas is leaving Blue Peter but not right away. He is set to leave in April and todays show saw the usual 'past experiences' VT. Of course Simon Thomas is leaving 'to move on to new challenges'.

Is this the case or another example of BBC spin and damage limitation?

Is this good ridence and who would you like to be the new BP presenter (if you could choose any celebrity).

It should be Konnie who's leaving! She's getting on for 8 years now!
Or maybe Konnie and Simon could leave, then we'd have a 3 again, with Matt,Liz and Zoe. Shame Simon's leaving though because he and Liz are my favourite.

Well, Zoe was the first new presenter in about 5 years - with Simon the first to quit in that time.

I guess the early naughties has been the first time there has been an era with one set of presenters since the seventies. Personally, I preferred it during the late eighties / nineties when you'd get a new presenter every year - with the longest serving one quitting. There would usually be a short cross-over period.

One thing I've noticed though - not many Blue Peter presenters get a decent TV career. Anthea Turner had huge success immediately after quitting - then just seeme to disappear. Richard Bacon is the most successful graduate of recent years - although I'm sure if he hadn't quit in the circumstances he had, would never have had the relative success he has had!

Although Konnie has been on the show longer, Simon is actually the oldest of the current team (32 this year).

And astonishingly, he's still on one of the rugby noticeboards at my school, to which he used to attend!!

Doesn't she actually go out with Richard Bacon? Though he's doing well, as he's taking Flipside TV to America, but considering what he did at the time he got off pretty lightly and probably did nothing BUT good for his career. Also nice to see Kaite Hill on ITV2 the other day...

Is Simon the one who has the dog? I don't watch it that much, as said it was better until the mid-1990's when they had a new presenter every year or so, the most interesting when they said they had a swap with GMTV, GMTV got Anthea Turner and Blue Peter got Stuart Miles.

Oh yes - we can't have anyone aged over 32 presenting on programmes for children...
