When you splash out on Sky just to watch different ITV regions - and before Oct 28th you routinely tuned into a different ITV region just to see a different name appearing on the screen. And even now, you tune into other regional programmes not see the programme, but to see the regional ident before it.

A bit like when you view BBC NI, with NTL just to see the different idents.

When you're one of 400 odd people who bothered to read the News 24 relaunch thread - even though it hasn't yet opened and you can't post anything in it.

When you set the video to tape a re-launch of News 24 that you won't be able to see live...

(Even moving the DTT box from the lounge into your bedroom so no-one else stops it Rolling Eyes )

You want to leave, to escape back to a time when you knew nothing of the dark pleasures of countdowns, idents, mock designs, pointlessness, Look North and other regional programming; to escape back to a time when the world you lived in was not seemingly almost entirely populated with people called James. But you can't leave, because they won't let you...you can't leave because you know that although you tell yourself otherwise, you've become quite fond of some of the many characters that inhabit this little corner of cyberspace. You can't leave, because you know that here is somewhere to unleash your geeky side, that you simply have to know all the little details of television that most people simply don't care about.

In short, you know you spend too much time here when you resort to posting posts like this.

That is quite true actually.

I'm gonna sound like a complete and utter weirdo here so here goes... there's something about this forum that gets into places others do not. Many a time I have told myself to forget about idents and astons and DOGs and James Martin and so on and so forth, but I just can't do it. I keep coming back. There's something reassuring knowing that Katherine will be talking about Look North. In fact, I can't watch a documentary about Asperger's Syndrome without thinking of this place. I can't LEAVE!!! Every time I here the word Nuneaton, Ison comes into my mind. Help, quite simply. I turn on Anglia News and there's a certain Stephen Lee speaking to me. I was watching a movie the other day when in the credits there was James Martin. It's like the Truman Show. HELP ME!

You haven't moved for so long that you don't turn your bedroom light on until 21:53.

You start wondering why some people have two different regions in their profile. e.g. ITV Region: Anglia East, BBC Region: LDN or ITV: HTV Wales, BBC: North West Tonight.

You find yourself browsing the forum at 4am where you're the only person online and you find it frustrating that there is no one else posting.

Probably not directed at me, but people have asked me this through PM for some bizarre reason. Where I live, I can pick up through the normal, terrestrial means three ITV regions and three BBC regions. So I just picked the ones I tend to watch.

What IS worrying... wondering what regions people would put in the profile if they were a member of this forum. (I've never done that though...!)

You realise that there are people (marginally) sadder than you when you read through (the next day) their minute-by-minute analysis of the 4am temporary closedown of BBC channels for transmitter maintenance.
