Am I alone or does anyone else think that BBC1's sign zone slot during the night is actually quite good? I've just started a well paid night job (I emphasise well paid because I've always earned the minimum wage before but now I've found a job that exceeds that) and I am allowed to watch TV. I watched ITV one night and thought it was dire. The next night I watched the sign zone programmes and caught up with some decent shows that I wouldn't have normally watched on their original airing. Even the wonderful sign language chaps and chapettes are not irritating so I think it is a brilliant way to fill time slots during the night without wasting money.
Sorry for being a little excited about this! But I am so glad that closedowns at 11.50pm no longer exist!
ITV used to provide a decent overnight service, now it appears to be a repeat of daytime programmes that are sign languaged. And of course how can I forget Powerpoint, sorry ITV Nightscreen.
Now I can see why Signed programmes are beneficial and I don't mind them being on in the middle of the night, but it does annoy me as I find it rather distracting, even more so on Sky Sports News and ITV News. Though it's also useful if you've missed alot of BBC1 and BBC2 programmes through the week. And it probably beats watching News 24 aswell.

Well yes, but mind you I do like Entertainment Now very much -- they should put it on instead of Emmerdale.

It's no wonder that ITV has a poor selection of signed shows - since all their signed programmes come from a tiny broom cupboard at Tyne Tees TV (Signpost). The same studio has to be used for several other clients. They do sign some overnight films on ITV1, although they're never films of much quality.
ITV1's BSL output seems to be mostly Monday/Tuesday. Signpost also do TV signing for UKTV, Living TV2, Challenge and Trouble.

I see what you mean. It's great for deaf viewers, but rubbish for those that aren't.
I wonder if there will ever be a way on digital, so that companies start to have every programme signed, and viewers could turn it on or off if they wanted. Though I suppose unlike subtitles it would take extra feeds.

oh yes, its not like you’re the type of person to get rather strangely over excited by christmas now is it.
i thought you'd gone back into hibernation until next christmas
Who rattled your cage you tart! Put your handbag down! But, seriously you're right! I do get strangely excited about Christmas but now I've discovered sign zone, well Christmas will have to take a back seat. And, I may hibernate in the summer as I hate hot weather, but not yet!
I have noticed that signed programming is increasing during the day as well. Today's omnibus edition of Hollyoaks was signed. The repeat of five's Family Affairs at lunchtime is also signed. Not sure how long this has been going on for though.

They've been signing Hollyoaks omnibus for about 4 or 5 years now, but they've only been doing it on DTT and DCab, as they tell viewers to turn to the analogue version of Channel 4 if they don't want it. I think there is a page on Teletext on 4 (well there used to be one on 4-Tel) that told you what programmes were sign languaged. They do sign language a film from time to time, Transworld Sport I believe is sign languaged and I think the odd kid's show is too.
Also notice that everytime Emmerdale Omnibus is shown on ITV2 that has sign language, ITV News is only sign languaged on Thursday nights at about Midnight.

Well, although I watch on analogue cable. I wonder if NTL have decided to opt for the DTT, DCab feed instead of one of 4's micro advertising regions as I saw Hollyoaks around Christmas and that wasn't signed on those particular weekends.
Well I don't usually watch the Hollyoaks repeat, due to the fact I can't stand it, but AFAIK it still had BSL, as for Channel 4 on NTL, we used to get Channel 4 London, as all of the adverts were different than C4 on Winter Hill, but I think they've changed it, as the London adverts seem to have disappared and the adverts are the same as C4 from Winter Hill.
