Oh, you've found me out! Smile Yes, I do really like Sian - but I do like all the others too. I don't think Sian is the best person for the main anchor position at the moment but believe she should be used more at weekends and as backup on the Six. Fiona Bruce should I believe be moved to the Ten with Sian as backup on Six.

I just think she is a really good presenter on a level with Huw and Fiona and should be used more - in my opinion she's certainly better than Sarah Montague, Darren Jordan or Matthew Amroliwala!

I'm glad that's cleared up. I just thought you were trying to sideline FB though I do agree that she'd probably be more suited to the Ten. It has suprised me at how shallow people have been in condemning Fiona. After all, there is a person behind the image and at the end of the day, we are judging them on their capacity to read words off a 'mirror'- hardly sufficient grounds on deciding if we like them or not. This is not a criticism, just an observation!

Exactly - couldn't agree more. I think Fiona Bruce is a brilliant journalist and I'm not one of those who thinks she is snooty or anything like that. I think she should be given a bigger role and have indeed been in e-mail conact with her to wish her well for her forthcoming maternity leave.

Is she definitely pregnant. Everyone is talking about it but how do they know? And when is she expected to go?

She is definitely pregnant - I read an interview with her and she said that on election night she will be five months pregnant.

So she will now be about six months pregnant and looking at next week's radio times I see Sian is down to do Friday's Six again with Fiona not doing the weekend so I guess she may have gone on maternity leave now.

If so, then she'll probably be back about November/December (I am of course guessing at how much time after the birth she will have off!)

Yep, Sian is doing the Six today - she did the 3.20 bulletin on Two. She's also presenting Dispatch Box tonight.

Huw is obviously now operating on a one day on one day off system!!! Smile

Yeah me too - she is far superior IMO to Fiona Bruce. She is more suitable for the News at Six.

Pardon the ignorance but what's IMO?

I note that Steven really seems to like Sian Williams but what makes her so different from any other presenter?  She is good I do admit but so are the rest.  No reason to denigrate the others-particularly Fiona Bruce.  Isn't it true that Sian once worked behind the scenes until she was 'talent-spotted'?

Sian used to be a producer on the PM programme on Radio 4. When News 24 was launched she, along with a lot of radio journos, applied for a job as a producer on the new channel. I gather that, by chance, someone dropped out of the presenter auditions and as she was around she decided to try her hand. And a star was born. As far as I know she had never done any presenting before.

She used to read the news on BBC Radio Merseyside. She is now officially a part of the BBC Breakfast team, so I doubt we'll see her at the weekend, unless she fills in for Fiona Bruce I hope we don't get more of Sarah Montague, Darren Jordon or Matthew Amroliwala!

Well - a good performance tonight!! I assume she is part of the Breakfast and Six teams as she seems to be on at least twice more in the next 10 days or so.
