Arena is another famous BBC documentary strand, and continues on BBC Four apparently. The title sequence with Brian Eno’s music is particularly notable.

Which gave its name to UK Arena (which was initially going to be called BBC Arena alongside BBC Horizon) until it was decided that the channels were to take advertising.

The current series editor of Arena, Anthony Wall has edited the series since 1985.

The Clothes Show - BBC One programme about fashion, 1986-2000. So successful it spun off into an annual live event, The Clothes Show Live, which continues to outlive the TV programme.

Although during Clothes Show Live I believe Really provides coverage under that title.

Channel 5 has a knack for producing shows with people who would become really famous later on, Idris Elba was in Family Affairs and Tom Hiddleston, Tom Ellis and Ruth Wilson were in Suburban Shootout 12 years ago.

Channel Five didn't 'produce' those programmes.
They commissioned those programmes.

Big difference.

Splitting hairs though, considering the context of the point being made.

Late night ITV filler from the 90s, Curtis Calls:

Recently found a VHS tape with bits of an episode featuring Geoffrey Hayes (closing with a silly little Rainbow parody to boot!)

I'm not sure it is. It could entirely mean that C5 are good at commissioning shows from Indies who spot talent, not at spotting talent themselves. C5 don't produce those shows, nor did they own them for any duration longer than the licence period they agreed with the Indies.

On a sporting theme, this is one I remember, and it's on youtube, or it was recently.

Back in 1987, ITV decided one summer weekend, Friday Saturday and Sunday, to stage a bowls competition with a difference. The Crown Challenge. It was played under crown green bowls rules, but there were eight Crown green players, and eight flat green players. Among the latter were Tony Alcock. It was played on a knockout basis, and to ensure a flat gren bowler got to the 1/4 finals, one of the first round ties had two flat green bowlers playing each other. In fact, Tony Alcock beat his crown green opponent, ensuring two made it.

It was only staged once, and was held in Blackpool. Not at the Waterloo hotel, with its world famous crown bowling green, but at the Marton Institute. Elton Welsby presented the coverage, Hugh Johns did the commentary.

One last thing, it was a summer weekend, so it had to rain at times!

Worthy addition to this thread, spotted in a Youtube collection of CITV trails.

Hulk Hogan was apparently in a cartoon series at some point that ended up on CITV but the only reference to any such media I can find appears to be a children's series made for CBS in 1985 and it appears to be slightly unusual (but not totally unheard of) that that would still be on air somewhere in 1994.

Also includes a near enough complete episode of CITV drama series The Lodge which only lasted 10 episodes and was originally aired in 1993. Seems to be a precursor to Tracey Beaker.

Hulk Hogan was experiencing renewed popularity in the mid-90s, and it's not been unusual for old TV shows to be bought out when certain people or franchises were getting popular again. I remember Cartoon Network digging out the 70s Gozdilla cartoon when the 1998 movie came out and Channel 4 showed the 60s Spiderman cartoon when the 2002 movie came out for example!
